I have to say, after some of the posts I saw here and at Intercot, I had concerns. I can honestly say that after 5 days there, I would recommend them to anyone, and when we go back, we'll stay there again!
First, they worked with us to get us into a room early so we could get changed to go to the beach. The front desk staff was warm, friendly, and completely helpful! As to concerns about the steps, there are luggage trollies just outside the front door. I'd guess if you are coming from Chicago or Boston you might think twice about leaving your luggage outside, but the reality is, it is perfectly safe.
If you need them to check luggage, they'll take it over to the building with the gift shop anyway, so you still don't need to haul it up the stairs.
We were in building 6 on the ground floor. The only noise we heard was kids upstairs on the first night...and that was around 8 pm!!! After that, we never heard another sound. The beds were comfy, the room was clean, and they really did have clean working fridges, irons, and blow driers. In addition, the blow drier had a nightlight, which was comforting to my kids.
I know one of the assistant managers lurks/posts here. If you see this, could you please send me a private e-mail with the name of the blonde front desk clerk who was working on Saturday the 28th around noon. She was so warm and friendly...I'd blame forgetting her name on a middle aged moment, but I've always been terrible with names! She went out of her way to make us feel at home and I'd like to drop her a thank-you.
As to ammenities, the pools were clean and had a good stock of fresh, fluffy towels. The gift shop had everything; you could even purchase individual styrofoam bowls and plastic spoons so the kids could have cereal for breakfast! We were able to get string cheese, three flavors of milk, and even fresh fruit there. It made mornings nice...we were able to get up and have breakfast rather than rushing to a restaurant somewhere.
In addition, they have safety deposit boxes you can use free-of-charge. It was nice to be able to lock up our air tickets and my cell phone...the two things it would have been a disaster to have taken.
The walk to Disneyland is nothing. Think of going from one end of your local mall to the other and back again. The ART was cheap and convenient, and was a nice break when we didn't want to stop at McDonalds or get an early start on the morning.
As to the people we saw there...a large group was from the cruise. The others were families who had small kids.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The walkways were swept every day and the flowers watered every day. It was more like being in a little park than at a major hotel.
The front desk staff was consistantly friendly and helpful. They suggested the transport company I used going back to the airport...Jag. The driver showed up right on time, the van was clean and in good condition, and we were taken directly to the doors we needed at the airport.
I am one of the pickiest people in the universe, and I can honestly say that the only think I could possibly nit-pick would be the pillows. It would have been nice to have been given a choice of feather of foam...the pillows were luxurious feather-filled. I would guess that, had I called the desk, they may have had some foam pillows available. Since everyone in my family takes allergy medicine every day anyway, I figured we'd go with luxury for once and take our chances with stuffy noses, lol!!!
To top it off, by booking early through MouseSavers I ended up paying less for 4 nights than people staying on site paid for one! I couldn't enjoy a vacation if I felt that I was being irresponsible with money...HoJo's made me feel like I got a great bargain on a great deal!!!
