HoJo or BW Park Place

[All Aboard]

4 Night Stay in May. Disneyland First-timers. Wife can't make trip, so we are not staying at Grand Californian. Boiled the choices down to Howard Johnson $76 for Disneyland View room or Best Western Park Place standard room for $95. I've read great reviews for both. Seems an unbeatable location at Best Western. Seems great all around at HoJo. Help needed.

HoJo is superb, and easily outrates other budget or family motels in surveys on Disney and travel forums.

It is 10 miniutes walks, has a great family restaurant across the street (Mimi's), a great little shop with everything you need on site, a heated pool and kids wet play area. nice rooms, good beds, great staff. What more do you need!

We spent 5 nights there in December and loved it.

<font color=navy>That's a hard choice -- I really like them both.

Here are a couple of strong points for both of them, and you decide what you'd like better.

BW Park Place Inn
Right across the street from Disneyland & probably a 2-minute walk
Deluxe Continental Breakfast, so you will save on meals at the parks

Howard Johnson
Two pools - the main pool has a view of the Matterhorn & monorail as it passes. The other pool is surrounded by the hotel & trees- more like a quiet pool.
Nice landscaping
3 or 4 buildings 3 stories high with interior corridors

The BWPP Inn doesn't have a fancy pool, I think & no landscaping. The Howard Johnson is within walking distance, but after a long day at the parks you just might want the shuttle. Also, the back building does get the freeway noise. Since you say you have a view of DL, you won't have that problem.

I really love the HoJo, particularly the higher rooms in the tower that look over toward Disneyland. Be aware that Disneyland view rooms allow you to see the park but it is mostly trees. You can see the top of Space Mountain and some neon from Tomrrowland. You can see the monorail go by and have an awesome view of the fireworks. You can see more of DCA in the distance.
The rooms at HoJo are comfortable and decent size and clean. The decor is unthemed and a bit bland. The buildings all have interior corridors and most rooms have a balcony. The grounds are landscaped with planetr and many many pine, ond other trees. There is no free breakfast. The walk to the parks is about 7 minutes.
Best Western Park Place Inn room was comfortable with nice tropical themed decore. There are exterior corridors but the place essentially has no grounds. There is a small ladnscaped strip in front of the motel. Rooms look out onto parking areas and other motels around the area. There are a very few rooms that look out at the parks. They have a decent free breakfast and the ease of the walk to the parks is only surpassed by the Grand Californian.
For many people the closeness of the BWPPI is enough to make it their choice. I happen to really like some atmosphere and space in my accomodations. HoJo's is still my favorite but the BWPPI was fine.

Just wanted to note, we were discussing the hojo on another thread, and if you have an entertainment card you can try for the entertainment rate, which was between 45-60 for the premium disney view room (depending on your dates). Considering you can get an entertainment book right now for between 17-25, it would be worth it just for the hotel savings alone.
