HOJO, Camelot or Tropicana - Recent reviews?

Have you considered Park Vue Inn? Free parking, the entire facility has been recently remodeled within the last year, free continental breakfast, rooms have microwave and refrigerator, and it’s technically even closer than Tropicana. We’ve stayed there 4 times since June and we are going twice this month. Their service is excellent. We love it for a parks trip.
I’ll take a look - thank you!

Thank you for sharing. I have had the same sentimental ties to HOJO. Always know what to expect. Last year we also stayed Easter weekend for the same # of nights and this year’s price is over $500 more. The garden pool & Building 2 are closed which has probably put more demand on their other rooms & higher prices due to popularity. I understand, but always think what I could spend the extra $ on.

I’ve always had the DL or GCH on my list, so maybe some year... I’d like to try a split stay on a future trip (we often go for a week at a time as are from Canada). Planning to upgrade our PH to AP when we’re there so hopefully can get an AP rate for Oct or Dec.
We did this for years, upgrade to annual passes!, we are just outside vancouver bc. we used to drive down all the time and several years we went two times in the year. we never used to do a trip shorter than 2 weeks. Prices have gone up so much though, its just not feasable any more, I feel bad for young families like our daughters now. This trip is costing them a fortune, and doesnt even include DL hotel! And yes we did a split stay 3 times! twice moving from hojos to the DL hotel, once from Park Vue Inn!

Glad to be back on the boards and planning another trip to my favourite place!

We’ve stayed at the HOJO about 7 or 8 times over the past 20 years (4 stays in the past 3 years or so) and have really enjoyed the water playground and park view balcony watching fireworks after my DD has gone to bed. We are now returning in April and are debating to stay there or somewhere else...

My daughter is now 9 and I know won’t be as into the splash park and the garden pool is currently closed. Also as she’s now older, I’m hoping for more park time and less time in the room.

Looking at some other Harbor options as we want a close walk, and enjoy Mimi’s, Panera and Pizza Press. I’ve found what look to be good room options at Camelot Inn (in a renovated room) and Tropicana. Both seems to have fridge & micro (which we like as we tend to do in-room breakfast).

Any thoughts or recommendations? For reference, HOJO $1750, Camelot $1450, Tropicana $1200

Thanks!

The splash area and hot tub is open...only the garden pool is closed. I'm staying there next month and I called and asked.
Fyi Tropicana recent reviews on yelp mention roaches... like 3 or 4 different reviews. I cancelled there after reading those and went back to my tired and true hojo.

Edit: I misread, I see that you know splash area is open.

Has anyone ever stayed in a “park view suite” at the Tropicana? Private balconies facing Disneyland and the fireworks?
I’d love to hear someone’s experience

I was looking at that too, but there aren’t any available for our dates. Not sure if there are any particular room numbers or sides of the building to request and maybe get a bit of a view.

We just got back yesterday from our second trip staying at Camelot and definitely plan on staying again! We’ve booked a renovated room both times and have loved it! Very clean and the staff has been great!

Thanks so much! I have booked a reservation for one of the renovated 2 queen rooms. Did you notice much construction noise? Is there a certain floor or room location you request?

We had the 2 queen renovated room too. We didn’t notice any construction noise at all (we were there Mon-Wed). We were on the 4th floor this last time very close to the elevators which was very convenient (same floor as the pool). I had requested a room closer to the front (just to save on walking) and they were very accommodating...we even arrived early on Monday and our room was ready at 11:00 am which was awesome! I also love that they let you stay parked there on checkout day until the afternoon in case you want to stay longer. We’ll definitely be back!

I booked a room with Camelot for my next trip and just noticed I got sent 2 confirmation emails within a few hours of each other... one from Camelot imn & suites and one from Camelot inn reservations and they have different confirmation numbers although all the details are the same. I figure I better give them a call and find out what's up, but is that typical for them?

I kept checking the HOJO for our dates and was able to get a park view 2 queen room reserved for $1,370. Tropicana is still a bit cheaper and I was starting to look forward to a little shorter walk & options to walk south to other restaurants (Pizza Press is a favourite of ours).

I called and apparently the first email is an automated confirmation from the online reservation system and then second email is a confirmation from the hotel directly so all's good.

I haven’t stayed at the others but we LOVE Hojo. The remodeled rooms are beautiful and impeccably clean, and I like that building one is a hotel (indoor corridors) not motel. Beds are super comfortable. I don’t think the walk is bad at all. We’re staying there again in March and can’t wait!

I stayed in a park view suite in January 2019. The rooms are close to the street, which was good at the end of the day walking back to the room. The balconies had good view of fireworks. When we stayed they were not having fireworks at night but it seems they were practicing the fireworks show or something because each night we saw and heard lots of fireworks. The sounds of the explosions are pretty loud in the room. We weren't bothered by street noise or neighbors, but we do travel with white noise machines. The living room area has a very uncomfortable couch that folds out into something that technically can be used for sleeping, but I would not call it a bed. The king bed in the bedroom was very comfortable. Nice shower. The room was spacious and it was nice having a separate space for sleeping if someone wanted to stay up watching TV in the living room. Microwave and fridge were handy. The room was clean. The pictures on the website make the room look a lot nicer than it is in reality. It feels less bright and cheerful than pictured online. Felt a little more run-down than we expected. However, the proximity to the parks is wonderful, and the price was right. We spend a lot of time in the room, so comfort is important. This room was not one we felt happy to spend much time in. We will look elsewhere next time. I think most people will find it perfectly fine, though. It is very spacious, but that might be because there isn't much furniture.

Thank you! We did end up booking there because we extended our trip by a couple nights and couldn’t lengthen our stay at the BWPPI because it’s sold out for our dates.
No suite though, just a basic double queen. I hope it’s ok! 🤞🏻
