OOC: I was just looking up protection charms. Mel's signature spell is pretty much the protego maxima charm-a difficult spell, according to HP wiki. It's really weird though because I described it pretty closely without knowing what it was.
OOC: Wow, that's cool!
OOC: any spell that tries to get through explodes. "Bodies crossing the boundaries of the barrier disintegrate on the spot". So, yeah. Do with that what you will![]()
Marcus: "I believe that is our best option. We could give them a mirror as well, just to be safe."
Professor Black: "Yes, of course," she said. Realizing she was still lost in thought, she came back. "Sorry about that. I just had a thought. If the basilisk is in the school-and we know it is-then it's master is as well. I have a feeling that this time, it isn't a student."
OOC: do we even know who's setting the basilisk to this yet?
Marcus: she shook her head. "I don't think any of our students would do that." Not even the Slytherins. She was worried. "I don't want any more of our students being petrified. What was the cure?"
Professor Black: "I believe it was fully-grown mandrakes, though they took nearly the entire year to mature."
Harriet: she sighed. "We better get the Herbology teacher on that."
Harriet: she sighed. "We better get the Herbology teacher on that."
Professor Black: Melanie nodded. "I just don't understand all of this." Why did they choose then, and not later or earlier? What was the significance of it-were they waiting until everyone thought they were safe to attack? None of it fit.
Harriet: "I don't think anyone does."
Prof. Claybourne: "Understand what?"
Prof. Claybourne: "Understand what?"
Harriet: "Basically anything that has happened this year."
Professor Black: She looked at Claybourne, then Harriet. "It was all so simple when Evan and I were children. We didn't know much about what Harry was up to, of course, but it was him. It was always him. We only knew that once he finished, we would be safe and Voldemort dead. Once Riddle was gone, everything would go back to normal like it did the first time." They hadn't known the days of hopelessness. In their lifetime there had always been hope, hope because of Harry. "Well, that's just it. We don't have Dumbledore, and Harry can't do any more than we can now. Voldemort's gone. I don't believe anyone expected this to happen again, not now that everything's over with. So why do they keep trying? Their master is dead."
Prof. Claybourne: "I don't know why they keep trying. It's brought nothing but death and sorrow to everyone. People must be mad to willingly follow through with that cause."
Prof. Smith: Professor Smith knew exactly what Melanie was talking about, and he agreed with her whole-heartedly. Everything had been so much simpler when they were younger, even with Mel's crazy family and the paparazzi that followed him and Christine around at school occasionally.
Professor Black: Melanie knew Claybourne was right. Nothing was worse than causing so much pain to others. "Are there any other precautions measures we can take? Anything that might be harmful to the basilisk?" she asked. "I could cast another protection charm, but I can't make it as strong if we want it to last. I don't even know if one would work on such a creature." She knew she could cast an unusually strong protego maxima charm, but in order to make it even stronger she would have to lose control, which was very draining. Melanie was thinking again. There may be a way, if it would work on the basilisk, to get rid of it. But it was risky. Very, very risky.
