I personally think one of the 5th, 6th, or 7th years, the other years seem too young.

If it were one of mine, I'd go with Eddie, cause I won't ruin Alexei/Veronica and I can't think of a great reason for Luke, whereas Eddie is wealthy and has an influential pureblood family and doesn't care about love enough to be woo'ed.

Or it could be other people trying to get two people to fall in love with each other.

Another thing I've considered is having the bad guy be Emerald's son, although you guys can come up with a temporary/not real student instead if you want.
