I am debating if we should go out for the black friday sales this year. We skipped it last year because the greed just ruinned the whole trip. The worst was walmart. There must have been over a thousand people in line. Some scumbag lady decided she would just start her own line and people started to get in line behind her and it turned ugly. People used trash cans and carts as barriers but when the doors openned she literally used her shopping cart as a battering ram knocking people over. The police had to be called and walmart just sat there doing nothing. I find this at pretty much ever store we have gone to on black friday(the name fits). Pushing, shoving, screaming, fighting, ect. What are your worst black friday stories and are you going this year. IF another person did a thread like that Iapologize.

Well, I do Black Friday every year and I have never seen anything like that! I live in a small community, so 1000 people in line isn't even possible! LOL

I love BF and it is the one day of the year that always starts out the season for me!! It is so much fun when the people are pleasant, but not like what you mentioned! Wow!

You must do you part to boost the economy

I will be sleeping

We had something similar to that happen last year at our Wal-Mart. We were standing in this LONG line and had been standing there fore about an hour. But when the doors opened people who had just walked up walked right in the store. Well needless to say that did not make people who had been standing in line happy. Several people got out of line and hunted the people down and asked them why the HE** they thought they should just get to walk in the door when all the rest of the people stood in line. It was not a pretty picture.

I read on the Budget Board that apparently ToysRUs is having some great deals that day on stuff that we are interested in...so I'm tempted to go. I haven't shopped on BF in years, I avoid it! So now I'm trying to decide if (possibly) getting a good deal is worth what I'm sure will not be a pleasant experience!!??!! Or if I should just buy what we need from Amazon, pay more, but get to stay home safe and sound and comfortable. Decisions, decisions... :)

That is really awful!:earseek: One of my friends wants to go out shopping really badly with me. If she gets me involved in any brawls, I'll be so mad. ;) I kind of dread going, but I promised her that I would. I'm not a crowd person, lol!:earseek: :D

DH and I went last year to Circuit City last year. Never again.
We ended up jammed into the back of the store unable to move well enough to even get out. It looked like a Mosh pit.

Somebody called 911 on their cell phone and the police showed up and told them they had a certain amount of time to get the store under capacity or they would close them down.

Needless to say, it was impossible to move much less buy anything in that kind of environment. I wanted to get into the CD aisle to buy some music CD's for my son. It just wasn't possible.

I think Toys R Us and Best Buy both regulate the number of people allowed into the store at a certain time. I don't know about Wal Mart. I know we drove by there last year before they opened and the line of people snaked around the building and wayyyyyyy out into their parking lot.

You know, I just don't need to save $20 that bad.

I agree with this statement 100%. I'd rather pay the extra few bucks and avoid the headache. I have to work that Friday anyway.

No way! Even saving 50% on my Christmas gifts isn't worth the hassle to me. Plus, being out with the crowds is how I got strep throat last year. That was $300 I could have done without spending!

Shopping on the internet this year!

I usually go, not always, but usually. Depends on what's on sale and what I need. I went to Best Buy last year and they did a good job. They handed out slips for the big ticket and most popular items, starting with the people in the front of the line. Lots of people just went in and paid, then went around back and picked up their items. I hope more places start passing out the slips. If you have a slip, you are guaranteed that item.

I totally agree.

I don't think anything at Wal-Mart is worth standing in line for personally.

I like to take my time shopping...my mother and I are actually going out next Saturday together...

Every "Black Friday" I put my tree up. This year I'll make DH breakfast with the hope that he'll help me! heheh

I had no idea it was that bad! Do you save that much?

I always trade working (reading a book, really) Friday at my office for an extra day off in Jan to go to Disney. Now it really sounds worth it, LOL!

you know - i should totally do that...(I take BF as a vacation day)

however I drive by many shopping places...and I just dont' want to deal with the idiots on the road!

They've gotten too out of hand. The "final straw" for me was the competition between the retailers as to who would be the first one to open. When I waited outside our Best Buy two Black Fridays ago at 5:30 AM in the bitter cold wind, and was about #300 in line, I decided that would probably be my last one. I didn't do it last year, and I don't see myself doing it this year either...

I've also discovered that many of the electronics and computer related items that I like are often also offered at similar savings a short time after Black Friday... all without having to awaken in the middle of the night and then fighting crowds.

i just noticed that the really nice mall in my area is opening at 5am on BF....

I mean...I like to shop...but at 5am?

No way! I went to a friends & family/military appreciation sale last night with "Friday After Thanksgiving Pricing!" and was ready to leave in an hour. The deals weren't worth the hassle!

But, as a retail employee, I appreciate those of you who come out. ;)

I love it! I go every year and finish all my Christmas shopping. But then again I love crowds. I don't usually stand in line for anything, so I've never experienced the horror stories being told here, but I do always take the day off and spend at least half the day shopping!

We go to Black Friday Sales but rarely buy anything. We mainly just go to Jc Penny to get the Disney Snowglobe or whatever and to Mervyns for some "free" spending money.

I wouldn't go out on Black Friday if everything was free! No way.

Thanksgiving is MY favorite holiday and I love to putter around on Friday morning and get ready for leftovers!
