Historic Ratatouille 'sell outs' to use for Guardians predictions

Does anyone remember how often Ratatouille sold out/closed to riders when it was using a virtual queue in the first year? I'm hoping historic 'sell out' data from Ratatouille will help me predict how Guardians might be when we get there at the end of September.

We're considering a day at EPCOT just to ride Guardians. That would be the whole point of the ticket - there's nothing else we want to do in the park. I don't want to spend several hundred dollars to get tickets and make reservations if there's a chance we'll miss a spot in the virtual queue at 7am day of.

A few notes that might helpful: we're in town for a very limited time before a cruise. We would arrive at the hotel after midnight, go to EPCOT the next morning, and then go to the cruise the next day. I'm considering a park hopper so we could do other parks, but there's nothing new. Also we just went a few months back so there's no huge draw for us to go see old favorites.

If someone has a magic way to be sure I'll get on Guardians when I go at the end of September, I'd love to hear it.

There will be a good chance you don't get a boarding group. I think this will be closer in scale to Rise of the Resistance than Ratatouille. I think the only way to almost guarantee you can ride would be buying an ILL right at 7 am.

We were there in October and April. When it was VQ, it was gone in under 2 minutes.
In April without VQ, the ILL$ were still gone fast.
When GoTG opens, I would expect it to go like RoTR did, under 1minute.

I'd be happy to buy a ILL and I'm willing to get to at 6:45 to do it, I'm just worried that I'll buy the park tickets, get up early, and still face a sell out where I can't buy an ILL.

Unfortunately, there's no way to guarantee that. While you'll likely have a better chance with ILL$ than with VQ, there's still a possibility that you won't get either. If you're not willing to take that risk and if there's truly nothing else you want to do in the park, I wouldn't spend all of that money on Epcot admission.

Hopefully Disney has done a better job designing adequate capacity into the rides that will be opening shortly. Obviously, when a major new ride opens, it tends to be a big draw. However, that Star Wars ride was sold out for the entire day within a few minutes of the park opening. If that keeps happening several months later, then clearly the ride was designed with insufficient capacity.

I think Rise of the Resistance might be a better comparison. I would expect the Guardians VQ to be gone in a matter of seconds to a minute.

I'm hoping for ILL.... but I suspect you're right in either case. just to be sure if I have a park reservation and a ticket and decide not to go that day (because I can't get Guardians) there's no way to get a refund or use that ticket later is there?

current supposition from those who have ridden is that GotG will be more popular than Rat. VQ will disappear within seconds. Probably the best way to guarantee a ride is going to be trying to buy an ILL. Although that will go pretty fast, too and there is no certainty that you will be able to buy one. I sympathize with those who will be choosing between whether to do the free VQ or try to buy an ILL at 7. Those with more than one person in their parties can try both though.

Should you choose not to go you can switch your reservation to another park (based on availability). not sure if you can cancel your park reservation and just not go to any park. Is this a one-day ticket or a multi-day? With a one-day ticket you may be able to book a park reservation for another day, so long as the ticket is unused. No refunds. There will be an expiration date by which you retain the cost of the ticket as credit, but you'd have to buy a new ticket (probably at a higher price) to get park admission.

If you're on the app right at 7 and aren't picky with your time, you should almost definitely be able to get an ILL.

one day ticket. We'll be in town for just over 30 hours. so I can have my husband trying for VQ while I'm buying it ILL both at 6:45 so we're ready at 7 on the dot?

I couldn't tell, but are you staying that night at a Disney resort? If not, you can't buy ILL until park opening, and they'll likely be gone.

the FAQs say that purchasers need to select a date for a one-day ticket, and it will expire on that date if it is unused. But you may apply the amount paid toward the purchase of a new ticket. However, it appears that if the new ticket costs less, you don't get to keep the overage.

OP, if you decide not to use your ticket that day, maybe you could try to change the date right away to a future date so it doesn't expire?

That could work, calling them before park open might help with the idea that tickets expire that day.

We're going 2nd week of June, with two EPCOT days. Really hoping we can manage to get a ride either one of our days!

Agree. Our first trip when RoTR was open, the VQ was gone in under 5 seconds.
