My DD will be celebrating her 1st birthday during our trip in July. I ordered a hip carrier from One Step Ahead and was wondering if anyone has used one of these. I thought it would be nice for her not to sit in the stroller all of the time and it will free up my hands a bit.

It would be great to here if anyone has used this.

Thanks
Amy

We just ordered one too for our 14 month old. She is only 19 lbs. so I'm hoping she won't feel too heavy. I already told dh that it was his job anyway so I guess it's a mute point. We are planning to use it while standing in lines, since you can't take the stroller. We're hoping this will keep her from feeling like it's us holding her back. WE'll see! I'm kind of getting nervous about the whole trip in general. She's a good baby but doesn't like to be contained for too long. She does love other people and esp. kids so maybe that will help. Good luck.

I have one, but my DD didn't use it too much. Often when I did she would bend over to look at the ground, straning my back. Also at that age she wanted to get up and down and up and down too much for my taste. (but yours might be different.) I have having a second child, so I hope she might use it this time around.

We did use it at WDW for DD 1st trip at 9 months old. I had her in it for some rides that I was nervous at 1st about her squiming around in (Dumbo and Peter Pan.)

It is a good price and seemed good quailty. (my DD hated any and all carriers really, I got a used Baby Bijon for this time and hope it works, because now in addtion to a baby I will have a 3 year old to run after.)

We have one for DD and I last used it in December when we went to DL. She fell asleep on the plane and it was easier to put her in this carrier and have my hands free than to just carry her off the plane. At the time she was about 3'/28lb. When she was smaller we used it quite a bit and I always carried it with us. I never had any pain from carrying her weight on my hip and I'm not a big person.

We have one that we loved for standing in line with DD#2 on our last WDW trip when she was 9 mos. old. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed using it exclusively in place of a stroller, but combining the two worked well for both of us.

I have one as well. I have used it to hold my 1 year old girl at my 4 year old girls soccer games. She loves it. She is learning to walk and likes to get down on the ground. But when she is in the carrier she is content. It is very small and easy to leave on when child isn't in it.

An alternative you might want to consider is a sling. I made my own padded solarveil sling, but you can buy them (www.kangarookorner.com is one place that sells them.) We spent 8 days in the parks and this was absolutely wonderful for DD 8mo. She's nearly 20lbs and I knew there was no way I was going to be comfortable with my Bjorn. I was able to carry her in a hip carry around the park and in lines, and then put her in a cradle type hold and she would nap in it. So, instead of a parent being tied to a stroller, we just kept going on rides as a family. Plus, the fabric is equivalent of SPF50, so I didn't worry about sunburn. I wore the thing for 2-3 hours at a time without problems, but I've been using slings with her for a while.
