Just back from a 3 way split stay.
We started off at the Hilton, moved to AKL, and then to Boardwalk Villas.
We had a 1-bedroom at the Hilton and Boardwalk.
My husband and I loved the Hilton. Nice layout, very nice upgraded appliances, mostly sound proof closet for the washer/dryer, easy parking, and a very easy drive to WDW. It is just a few minutes past DTD. The furnishings were beautiful, modern, functional, dark wood. Lots of well thought out little things like a ton of electrical plugs including one right on the nightstand on each side of the very comfy bed. We had a lake view, but noticed certain units do also have a fireworks view. High speed internet, including good wireless coverage was free.
The kids also liked the unit and said it was the most comfortable pull out couch they have ever slept on. Better than most hotel beds was what my daughter said. And these are bigger kids, 12 and 15 years old. What they didn't like was the pool which they declared lame. The slide was 'wussie' and the entire pool was shallow (5 feet, maybe?). This might be a perk for those with littler kids.
Since we also stayed at the BWV in the same size unit (both 1-bedroom, the Hilton was much bigger) I will add, while we love being onsite and just loved the BWV pool and being on the boardwalk- My Husband and I both prefer the Hilton. The kids came down on the other side, they prefer the BWV and the freedom of going out to the BW (together) whenever they wanted. They have more energy than Mom and Dad.
The biggest difference was in function. BWV had not nearly enough outlets, lighting switches were not in reach of the bed, kitchen was very small and the appliances were very basic. The Hilton being brand new gave it a cleanliness edge as well. Our BWV room had been recently redone but things like the shower and bathroom tile were in sad shape.
We booked both the Hilton and the BWV through non-direct outlets (Orbitz and South West Air) and in both cases we received daily maid service and they replaced all consumables like laundry soap. Not sure if this is always the case or not.
