Hello! Is anyone familiar with the Hilton Rewards. I just found out we can get airline miles in addition to the Hilton rewards. I put DH's Delta number on their website. I assume the miles will go directly into our Delta miles account? Anyone with experience on this I am interested. They call it their Double Dip Program! I am all for taking advantage of earning free or cheaper ways to get to and stay at Disney!!

:thumbsup2

Yes, you can double dip, but the generally accepted better option is to double dip with “points and points” especially if your airline of choice is Delta. Delta has some of the worst availability for saver awards. The frequent flyer community calls Delta Skymiles “SkyPesos” since they are virtually worthless and frequently require double miles for a domestic award. You are much better off earning Points and Points since you are then earning in the native Hilton system which isn’t devalued as much as when Hilton has to buy the Delta SkyPesos.

yep...sticking with the HH points is best. They often have promos that will double-quadruple earned points on a stay. I just stayed 3 nights at a Hilton Garden Inn and will end up with approx 15,000 HH points because of a promo that I registered for. When I got home there was another promo in my email that will double points on my next stay.

I agree with PP that double dipping on HHonors points is the better way to go rather than doing the partner points with Delta.

Also, look for ways to get bumped up to Silver and Gold levels. Once you are above Blue, there are extra point kickers for hotel stays plus VIP level extra points. I registered for some promo that bumped me up to Gold after 3 stays (or something like that).

Two weeks ago I stayed at a Hampton Inn and my room base charge was $188.10. I received 1881 base HHonors points, 940 Bonus 50% on base points, 470 Gold VIP Bonus of 25% plus 250 My Way preferences bonus. That totaled to 3541 points for one night! Two nights prior I stayed at an Embassy Suites and racked up 7745 points for two nights!

I dont remember seeing the option to Double Dip on the Hilton points. Is this only an occasional offer? What is wrong with Delta's Skymiles program. We have accumulated a lot of miles and probably have enough for a couple free flights. Is there something better we could look for? To MCO Delta is almost always the cheapest and if it is slightly higher we fly it to keep our miles. We are going to DL in June and Delta is by far the MOST expensive, like double the price. The cheapest is Frontier there and United Back. I plan to sign up for miles through them because I think there are websites you can use to combine from other companies.

"Double Dip" is what HHonors calls their program where you select your earnings options of either:

  • HHonors Points and HHonors Points: 10 HHonors Base points + 5 bonus points per eligible U.S. dollar spent
  • HHonors Points and Variable Miles: 10 HHonors Base points + 1 airline mile per eligible U.S. dollar spent
  • HHonors Points and Fixed Miles: 10 HHonors Base points per eligible U.S. dollar spent + 500 miles per stay (100 miles per stay at Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites® and Homewood Suites®)
Double Dipping is not an occasional offer -- it's all the time and you make your selection by logging into their site and choosing it in your profile.

There's nothing 'wrong' with Delta's Skymiles program. It's just that you get more 'bang for your points buck' by racking up on HHonors points vs. using HHonors Delta points-to-miles double dip.

The holy grail for FFs is to redeem miles based on a value of at least $0.02 per mile. So if you use 25,000 miles, you want to receve at least a flight that would coat you $500 in return. Its this reason that FF don't like DL Skymiles for domestic trips.

However, DL may be the best program if you plan to travel to Australia or to French Polynesia becuase they partner with V Australia, Air France and Air Tahiti Nui.

If you are flying on airlines on which you rarely fly, by all means sign up for the FF program. Who knows where your future travels may take you? In all likelihood, however, you will find little value in trying to transfer them to another program. Even if it is possible, you tend to lose most of the value in the process. -- Suzanne

Delta miles are often difficult to redeem at the "Low" level. As for which option you should use for "Double Dipping" - it depends on your rate and if you are staying for one or many nights (and possibly if you are close to an award and need miles/points).

FYI - On the Hilton Homepage there is a promo for double points or miles.

HHonors.com/Double

"Sign up for the Double Your HHonors promotion and you can choose to earn Double Points or Double Miles when you stay at any participating hotel and resort in the Hilton Worldwide portfolio by June 30, 2012."

WHOO HOO! Thanks! DH just found that email in his junk mail!

Does Hilton ever offer room discounts to HH members? I haven't seen any.

I've never had a problem redeeming Delta mile for flights. In fact, I,m in FL right now on a "free trip". I redeemed points 3 days ago for the flight. I used HH point for a few nights hotel and a 1 week car rental and AMX points for Portofino Bay at Universal and park tickets. Grand total $92 for taxes on the car rental. 6 nights,7 days. Free breakfast every morning. Airport lounge privileges for the layovers. And I still have 500,000 points left.
DS is using HH points for 2 nights in FLL before and after a cruise this week.
I LOVE my HH points. Double Dipping adds up fast.
