Hey guys and girls, this is my family's first time over seas and were making DCA our 1st and have booked 15 nights at Hilton Homewood does anyone have any personal opinions on that hotel from their experience?
Regards
Brendan

We have enjoyed our stays at the Homewood. The one we stay at is on Harbor Garden Grove/Anaheim. The rooms are very nice, always clean. They have 2 queens in the bedroom with the bathroom, the living room has the sofa bed as well as a full kitchen and dining table.

The breakfast is great with hot items they have eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, cereals, fruit, make your own waffles/coffee/milk/juice. At dinner the light meal is great as well as the wine/beer/soda they serve. Sometimes the dinner is salad and soup, other times we have had hamburgers, just depends. I think you can call the hotel and they can give you the menu.

Its directly across the street from Target. In the same parking lot is a Red Robin and Joes Crab Shack.

Have a wonderful time!

Wow thanks heaps for that review :) we will be there early Sept though to late Sept :) appreciate your help

We loved the Homewood.

We were there for 4 nights in early June 2011 and will be there again at the end of September.

I copied this from another post that I made about Homewood.

I would recommend this hotel to everyone and anyone. Here's why:

1) Loved having a bedroom (2 queens), bathroom, living room and full kitchen. We were able to put our kids to bed and go to the other room to have some down time for me and my husband without disturbing the kids. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable.

2) While we didn't use the stove the full fridge and microwave rocked. We drove from Salt Lake City so we had a cooler and just put everything in the fridge when we arrived. We used the microwave for warming up leftovers, popcorn and baby food. We also went to the Target across the street and bought water which we put in the freezer and took to the park each day. Really saved us.

3) The staff was unlike any other hotel I've ever stayed at. We were welcomed every time we walked in with a smile. Although it was very full they even remembered my children's names. Everyday during breakfast we were asked if we were going to be back mid-day. The days we were the person took our room number to ensure that our rooms were cleaned and ready for us.

4) Free breakfast (7 days) and dinner (Sun - Thurs). The eggs at breakfast weren't great but everything else was. The dinner was perfect for our family. They had a taco night, spaghetti night and bbq (hot dogs & hamburgs). Free beer, wine and soda was included for dinner. My DH loved this. We filled our water bottles with soda when heading back to the park.

I could go on and on. It was a great hotel experience. We're looking forward to going again next month.

Do you have a Hilton Rewards number? If you booked directly w/ Homewood you can earn rewards. Our week earned us enough for 3 nights because there is a triple point promotion. Based on your length of stay you may be able to earn a lot of free nights. ;)

Seems to be a little further out so shuttles run every 30 minutes until 11:50pm :)

I would not consider it walking distance. It's about a mile. Homewood has a designated shuttle (not ART) that runs every half hour (on the 20's I believe). IMO this is a huge benefit. We've had bad luck with the ART at other hotels. The hotel sells passes for single, 3 or 5 days I believe. Kids 2 and under are free.

One morning we had a character breakfast that was before the park opened. The consierge made arrangements for a town car. It was like $10.

I Heart Mickey - We were there at the same time this past year and I used to be a huge fan of Homewood, but not anymore. I used to refer people from the DIS to there, but won't any longer. We were regulars there, but this last time, we (my DH and 5 and 7 year old) were bumped to a smoking room with only one bed (and a fold out couch - kids can't/won't sleep together). We always book far ahead and were shocked that this happened. The front desk said this was due to the hotel being overbooked for the Marathon. Imagine if I had been running it and had to stay in a smoking room overnight.
I had dealt with the GM Joe before and contacted him thinking he'd have a resolution. Nothing. My son and I both have asthma and didn't realize this could ever happen.
Joe said he'd comp us but never did. I'm really disappointed with his response to us - loyal customers.
Now that I know, I'll have to try to stay at properties that are non-smoking.
Also, they have never gone out of their way to assist us. I Heart Mickey - you have incredible rapport with them. They've never once even acknowledged my kids or us when returning for the day, remembered our names, etc.

Now that you mention it I remember your post from earlier this year. I thought that the issue was resolved/corrected and they put you in a different room. That is a terrible experience and I totally understand your feelings. We will be staying there in September. I'm hoping we won't be disappointed. I'll report back.

I'll also be interested in the staff interactions. Like I said our experience went above and beyond - to the point that they even acknowledged our DS birthday.

We stayed in May, and really loved it!

The rooms were large and clean.

The free b-fast every day was a huge $$$ saver. We never made it to the dinner, but heard that it was nice.

The shuttle(small fee) was great, and always on time.

Loved having Target across the street, as well as so many restaurants close by.

Our kids loved the pool area too!

Have a wonderful trip!

I keep forgetting that CA allows smoking-rooms at hotels.

Definitely a long way to walk! We were recently at the Hilton Garden Inn, and that was long enough. Using googlemaps with Park Place Inn as an ending address (since putting in Disneyland kept taking me to PPH), the walk from Homewood is 1.6 miles one way.

While we did walk from and to the Garden Inn all but one night (when we caught a cab lurking in the drop off area (which they are not supposed to do, and the guy charged us more than the meter would have been if he had turned it on, so don't trust a cabbie who is already being naughty)), it was a LONG walk. And there's a point just past Orangewood where the walk back just stops feeling safe. (and I've walked in MANY cities alone, I'm not new to walking in sketchy areas, but that area started having a funny vibe to it)

Definitely take a shuttle.

We stayed there June 2011.

Pros:
1. My aunt used her Hilton points to pay for the room (which was the main reason we stayed there.

2. Close restaurants & shopping, even though we didn't take advantage of either

3. Liked the full kitchen, seperate bedroom set up

4. Starbucks located in the lobby of the hotel within the same parking lot (I'm addicted to Starbucks!)

5. Both my aunts enjoyed the breakfast offerings, even though they did not have any of the cooked items (they had yogurt & fresh fruit)

6. Clean rooms

Cons:

1. Dining area was always crowded, for breakfast and dinner

2. "Dinner" food was sub-par, we attempted twice :sad2:

3. The dedicated hotel shuttle was hit or miss, one afternoon it seemed like we waited forever, for a shuttle that never arrived. Decided to take ART, to which three buses went by that were all full. Finally decided to get a cab with another family that were tired of waiting. This was just one experience but our entire stay it seemed the dedicated shuttle & ART were rarely on time, we switched back and forth and there was a lot of time wasted.

If I had to choose, I would not stay there again. Of course, this is just my experience, and that could change with staffing/ improvements/ crowd levels, etc.

Oh yes, Disneyismagical - now I remember the last time we were there, the food was terrible too. Our sausage had hard bits of maybe bone? they were inedible and the fruit was always slim pickins. I remember something about the taco bar, I think it was missing cheese. I do remember that we couldn't rely on the "dinner" to be dinner, good thing we always bring extra food.

IHeartMickey - I didn't go back and re-read my posts from that fateful trip, but I probably spoke too soon as our issues didn't ever get resolved. I had dealt with Joe before and assumed he would make things right - it was looking like he would. When we checked in, and after a *lot* of whining to several people, then I resorted to name dropping, we finally were put into a non-smoking room with one bed and a sofabed for the 4 of us. I had paid for room with 2 doubles, never got refunded the difference in price. Noone should ever have to name drop to get the service they booked.

We'll probably stick with Marriott or Embassy Suites now. Someone else suggested Ayres and Staybridge. I don't think Ayres has breakfast? but the make your own waffles isn't so worth it anymore, we'll bring our own cereal or muffins.

That is unfortunate. Made worse by the fact there was no follow through. Did you write a review on Trip Advisor? Whenever I book a hotel I look there for referals. Makes me a little nervous but as I've prepaid so I'm just going to have to hope for the best.

We stayed at the Staybridge for Christmas/New Years. I wouldn't go back.

The staff at the front desk was not accommodating and rude. Asked if they had any information on how to see the Hollywood sign and she looked at me and said, "don't you have a smart phone or navigation?" When I said no she had to get off her cell phone and pull out a giant binder of things to do. There werent any colors made of that one so I could only look at it.

Our toilet was overflowing when we checked in (water full and dripping on he floor). when I called the front desk they asked what we put in it to plug it up. We had only been in the room 10 minutes. I said it was full of water and dripping when we got there. It took 2 hours for someone to come up. I explained we wanted to go to the park and asked if we could switch rooms and was told the hotel was full and someone could let themselves in the room.

The pool water was freezing (it was in the 80's all week). We could only go into the hot tub.

Breakfast was the normal (powdered eggs, meat, toast). I was shocked how strict they were as breakfast ended. They turned off the juice and soda at the exact time. They even dumped any remaining coffee. The beverage counter was outside the buffet area. Light snack was just that a snack. One night cheese and crackers, the next was garlic bread. They did have beer and wine which we enjoyed.

The icing on he cake was the ART. The first few days it was fine. New shuttle evey 20 minutes. But then it went downhill fast. We waited over an hour multiple times. Not fun with little ones. Left a bad taste in my mouth. I won't stay at another ART hotel.

I've stayed there 4 times, the last 3 times on Hilton points. When I used points, it seemed like only kings were available, which was fine for me since I was solo. Even though the shuttle was timely, it was a pain going back and forth. I guess I'm spoiled by the Disney hotels.

That is exactly it for me, too! I got spoiled by the short walk and have never recieved bad service at GCH or PP. The OP may very well have a wonderful time and enjoy their stay, which I hope to be true. :wizard:
