Hilton Head

Pro: It's not Disney World!

Con: It's not Disney World!

The property is lush, green, and gorgeous. Smells great. A little oasis in the midst of a very touristy, though lovely, resort area. There are wonderful Disney touches everywhere and the rooms are beautiful. Cast Members were all kind and friendly. Lots of fun, laid-back, crafty activities and lots of "off-property" things to do. Beautiful beach/beach house a short bus/car/bike ride away.

That said, be prepared for a very different experience than the Orlando experience. Things close up early. There is no real "restaurant " on site. Cast members are few and far between. Most of the time when we entered the lobby, no one was there -- we had to "ring the bell." Can you imagine that at WDW? You'll need to plan activities for yourself, "beyond" Disney, although there are some really fun on-site things. We loved Hilton Head. It's sort of like Disney in slow-motion. If you don't expect it to be like Orlando, you won't be disappointed.

There's a great pool, lots of space for walking and bike riding. The area called Shelter Cove Marina, just across a bridge from the resort, has shopping and restaurants/bars. It should be less hot and less crowded when you visit in the Fall. The whole area is really very beautiful. The whole "low country" made us wish we LIVED down there!

Have fun!

Not only do things close early, but if you go out after dark (which is real early at that time of year, you'd better know where you're going! There's no big neon lights to help you find the resturaunt you're headed to. I remember our first visit, trying to find Hofsbrau resturaunt the first night. What an experience! Learn your way around in the daylight!

It's not on the beach. I'd second the idea about being hard to find your way around at night. Still, I think you will enjoy it. One thing you may want to consider is trading for a Marriott for that time at the 60 day window where you could exchange studio points for a 2 BR and be on the beach. Grande Ocean, Monarch and Barony would the the one's I'd consider.

We're going this Aug. 1-6. I have not been south in the summer since my in-laws moved to Florida during the winter months (over 12 years ago). I hate bugs - especially mesquitos.

Is it really bad in the summer - I thought the breeze from the ocean wouldn keep them away. They SEEK ME OUT - MOSQUITOS!

We were there for a week last July and did not have ANY bugs or mosquitos!! I was very surprised! but happy!
