we're planning a trip to HH in March. Can anybody give me some advice on what golf courses to play, what the rates are and what the best times are to play.

also, does anybody know if the beds in the two bedroom villas are queen or doubles?

thank you

Can't answer your question about golfing, but the bed situation is 2 queens in second bedroom, and 1 king in the master bedroom.

Don't know the answers to your questions yet, Tomi, but we're also going to HH in March and DH will definitely be golfing also. I think he has his heart set on some course that's very expensive but well known (have a lighthouse?). But personally, I think I read that there's a course within 5 minutes of the resort (was it Palmetto Dunes?), that's supposed to be an excellent one-and cheaper! Wish I could convince DH to switch! If you're going 3/8-3/13, maybe we'll see you there.

Call down to the resort directly (843-341-4100) and ask them to send you their list of golf courses and rates. Don't know if they'll have the rates for when you're going, but it will at least give you an idea of what's available!

The one he wants to play (with the lighthouse) is Harbourtown -- it's where the MCI Classic (most recently the Worldcom Classic, and who knows what it will be now...) is played. And yes, it IS expensive -- I would imagine probably around $150 - $200 per round.

DH and DS love the Fazio course at Palmetto Dunes (recently competely re-done, they're playing the "new" one the first time over Thanksgiving). They also like Golden Bear (Indigo Run) and Shipyard. There are also some courses further toward the mainland that can be very reasonable.

;)

I don't have a clue about golf courses but you may want to know that if you can exchange into Marriott's Heritage either through II or by direct exchange, you may want to consider it. Even exchangers get the free golf every day for 2 people is my understanding.

Harbour Town was $280 last year - no coupons no specials. When you get there get one of the small golf books from any supermarker, WalMart, or sometimes at the front desk. Also get a copy of The Island Packet, the local newspaper. You will find many specials listed in there. In March, if you play in the afternoon, you can usually get 18 holes with a cart if you have a coupon for about $25-$35. The really discounted ones are normally off the island, on the main drag going to the Island. Beware if you select Bufort, because it may have cheap specials, but it is also an hour away. If you are retired military, you can go over to Paris Island and play their course for a very reasonable fee. It was rebuilt two years ago and is a fun course now. There is also a chance that DVC might hold a golf tournament while you are there (they did in 1999 when we were there in March). The cost was $40, and they drove us to the course in the van, had a free bucket of driving range balls, and had a good four man scramble tournament.

I have some links to golf course info on my web site.

Enjoy but remember, in the late afternoon in March, the No-See-Ums will eat you alive if you do not wear something.

Tommy

Unfortunately, I think the HH golf tournament has had a similar demise to the DVC golf tournament that USED to be held at WDW.

:( :( :(

If you're planning more than one round of golf it might be worth looking at the deal that Harbour town was offering when I last went. It was one round on each of the 3 courses they have (including the one the MCI classic is played on). I think the cost at the time was $350 for the three rounds, which given Harbour town was $200 on it's own didn't seem too bad. I know it's expensive but if playing on one of the top courses, one that's regularly on TV, is something you'd like to do , then I think it's worth it. It certainly brings back the memories when you see the top pros struggling to make par on the holes you scored well on :) . Something you won't get when you pay less money for a perfectly good, but not as well known course.

According to the PGA web page, the WDW Golf Classic is scheduled to be played on the DW courses in October 2003. They have stated that they have a new corporate sponsor who has committed to four years. Although neither the dates nor the new sponsor have been announced. The official Disney page lists the dates of the Classic as Outober 23 - 26.

The HH tournament - previously the Worldcom Classic is also still scheduled for April 2003. It will simply be called The Heritage of Golf Classic because they have dropped Worldcom as a sponsor. You can get that info, as well as ticket info by calling their tournament office at 800-234-1107.

In my previous post, I was referring to the DVC member golf tournaments that they used to have. There was one in November at WDW and one in the spring at HH. DVC is no longer sponsoring these member tournaments, which is really too bad. DH loved the WDW one. :(

The two golf tournaments you mentioned are for the pros, and I'm sure they will definitely continue.

;)

I was not referring to the big tournament in my previous post. I was talking about a small one they had just for the members that were staying that week. There were about 16 of us who played, and my foursome won. Our prizes were the ceramic Mickey golf statues. It really was just a day out and not a full blown tournament. We went to The Old South to play.
