I'm not real sure where to post this. Which of these beaches are the nicest? I'm looking for a nice family vacation during labor day. I do have 3 nights in Myrtle with priceline, but I can easily sell those to a person in my family.

Myrtle Beach is more commercial, and probably more crowded. Lots and lots to keep busy.
Hilton Head has mostly private beaches, for the different plantations. More slow, laid back, and quiet. Not as many go cart, mini-golf, etc.
Just depends on which you are interested in. My family prefers HHI. It's our favorite vacation spot, and DH and I hope to retire there, so that may sway my opinion a bit;)

Oh yes, not as crowded won me over. I hate things being to crowded.

Myrtle and HH are almost like polar opposites. I prefer Myrtle, but that is because I enjoy some fast paced things to do for SOME of my vacation. HH is very nice, and very quiet.

We went to Myrtle last year for the first time. We've been going to HHI for at least 20 years. I must say I was very disappointed in Myrtle. All the highrise hotels/condos just ruined it for me.

I prefer Myrtle for family trips. Tons of restaurants and things to do in the evening(shows, shopping, rides etc). Hilton Head is more upscale, few restaurants (expensive unless you go to a chain which are few and far between) and really not much to do in the evening(some putt putt). I prefer Hilton Head with just me and hubby .
You will have a ton of traffic in either place, more so in Hilton Head because its a Island.

I live in Myrtle Beach. Around Labor Day, traffic is horrible! If you want something slow-paced, I suggest HHI. But if you want to go no stop, come to MB.

I prefer HHI over Myrtle. But HHI isn't my favorite beach either, lol. But between the 2, if you don't like the fast paced, crowded, built-up beach area, go with HHI. It is beautiful.

Don't forget to look to the right driving in to see Disney's resort there on HHI. (DVC)

I have never been to either personallhy but I have a friend whose whole family swears by HH, just thought I would throw that out for you! Good luck in choosing and I hope you have fun!

Loved Hilton Head. Took the family in June of 2006. Girls were 9 and 11. We had a fabulous time. The beach was great. Spent most of the days there. Rented bikes and did an early morning and late evening ride daily on the beach. Very relaxing, with still plenty of things to do. Stayed at the Shipyard Plantation, in Golf Masters. Wonderful !!! We will be going back soon.

We have friends that do Myrtle Beach every other year. They tell me about the congestion and all the traffic. Nope, not something I want to do. Lisa

There are over 250 restaurants on Hilton Head Island. Prices run the gamut from very reasonable to high end.

Traffic on Hilton Head itself is not bad. However, if you are arriving by car on a Saturday you can run into quite a bit of traffic getting on to the island as there is only one bridge.

Agreed, I have never found the HHI restaurants particularly "expensive" Our favorites are The Crazy Crab, and Sea Shack. Tons of food for the $$.

I have been to HH many times and uless you are staying in certain parts of the island, restaurants are pretty spaced out. Traffic is horrible during the holiday(just the same as Myrtle). We stay at the Westin normally, so it is a drive to eat unless you eat at the resorts. If you stay in the Sea Pines area, more restaurants, but I found more crowded with people.

I grew up going to Myrtle multiple times a summer but now prefer Hilton Head. We always stay at the DVC resort which is at Shelter Cove. We have never had a problem finding restaurants to go to. Usually the opposite-- deciding which ones we are going to try this trip! At Shelter Cove there are several restaurants within walking distance to the DVC resort so we usually just walk over at least one or 2 nights.

One of the 'issues' with HHI is that they are very nature conscious. The signage is all very low and small and all in natural colors so places can be hard to see from the road.

For me Myrtle is just too much neon and crowds. If I were to go to Myrtle now I would prefer to stay in North Myrtle or in Surfside which is south.

I have to disagree with you. There are restaurants all over the island; North end, Main St., mid island, Port Royal Plaza/Pineland Station/Northridge, Shelter Cove, up and down Palmetto Bay Rd./Pope Ave./Coligny, New Orleans Road, Sea Pines Circle area and on to Sea Pines itself. There are so many restaurants on Hilton Head it's hard to choose!
