Hi all,

We'd like to try Hilton Head with some dear friends of ours sometime - however we have one person (female, in her 50's) who does not do beach or golf (her husband golfs) She does, however , love to shop - is there good shopping close by (outlets or other types?) and how hard is it to get there?

Thanks for the information :)

There's a mall within walking distance-I've never been in there, so I don't know how it is. There are also shops over at Shelter Cove. And there's a real nice area for shopping in Sea Pines, way out at the end. Also, back on the mainland, there's an outlet mall, that one takes about 20 minutes to get to. But the little mall nearby is within walking distance, as is Shelter Cove.

OMG there is shopping a-plenty on Hilton Head Island! There are all kinds of outdoor shopping centers (larger than strip malls, so I hate to use that term) with many little shops that you normally find in a tourist-y area. (Not just souvenier shops, although there are a lot of those too, but boutiques and specialty stores.) Add the already-mentioned Shelter Cove Mall (indoor more traditional mall) and the outlets in Bluffton and you can have shopping heaven. Truly, I think someone who loves shopping could easily fill an entire vacation there!!

:rotfl:

There is a ton of shopping as the above poster mentioned- but you really should hava car to take full advantage. There are also a lot of outdoor nature activities that aren't golf. Lots of fishing charters or dolphin cruises. There are event charters that just go out on the sound- no activity required, just sit back and relax. Or dinner cruises at sunset. Usually they take you out to Daufuskie Isl. and back(check out vagabond cruises) Lots of kayaking- for beginners if necessary- and bike trails all over the island. I think the Coastal Discovery museum still does walking tours- they take you out onto the beach and explain about the local wildlife. They have a turtle walk where they show you the nests and explain about conservation efforts. Just buckets of things to do.
