Aw! Adorable family. Our kids are similar ages (DS-22 and twin DDs-20). Well, hopefully we will see you guys. We will be ready for a nice frozen drink too.

Thanks. My ds is 21 and my dd-25 (she just took the Bar Exam today and has one more day tomorrow). She will be right there drinking with me and ready lol

Happy planning and safe travels!

Last May we went to Disney's HHI resort. We got to the beach and everyone was out of the water. We were like 'what is going on?'. We sat there a bit and sunned and wondered. Then we heard folks talking about a boy who got bit by a shark the day before.

Needless to say, we stayed pretty much out of the water that trip. Just went ankle deep and sat in beach chairs at the edge.

We were there the same time. The attack was actually on Mother's Day and at the Disney beach location. We felt blessed to not be there that morning as my son actually got a little toasty from sunburn the day before---so we took the day off from the beach. Funny thing was that we didn't know about the attack until my friend emailed me the story as we were driving home. There was never any mention at all from Disney. I understand that it would be bad publicity, but I also think a little heads up would have been nice.

Best of luck to your DD. Pretty impressive. She will need a nice relaxing trip with a few 🍹🍹 I tried to get my 2 DDs to fly down from college (they are in apartment there to work and take summer classes) for the HHI trip but one is taking her EMT test on the 8th. Other DD is working anyway. And DS is also working. I guess gone are the days of having us all vacay together. :( Maybe once they get more settled (DS just took new job and DDs have just 3 more semesters until graduation). I am vying for DDs to not work next summer (since it will be their last before adulthood) and then they can do cruise and HHI with us. Do you have a difficult time getting everyone together too?

We only knew because it was odd that nobody was in the water at all. So we started to look around and listen. I thought maybe it was from a strong rip current but usually a few folks will still be in the shallows. Then we heard people next to us talking about the attack. My DDs (19 then) would NOT get in the whole trip. LOL. But, yeah, Disney didn't notify us at all.

The resort has a Facebook page, and I (apparently) made the mistake of posting the report on the Facebook page. The report (newspaper article) was removed, and I was warned not to post these negative reports. It's the only time I've had a post removed, and it seemed kind of a strong reaction to me.

Yeah, they do not like any criticism in the slightest to be posted there. At all.

Wow--crazy.

That makes no sense to me. Most beaches up the coastline(NJ-Mass) will post when there has been an attack just for safety. Sometimes they even close the beaches for a day or two. I think it a bit odd that nothing even occurred.

We go to Hilton Head every year and have had more than one day where no one was allowed into the water because of sharks. Same thing happened while we were in Vero beach just 3 weeks ago.

9 days for us...woo hoo. Love it too!! We were there earlier this month and jelly fish were a problem. Still love it. In fact this upcoming trip is to look at a quarter share condo in Shelter Cove so we can be there 13 weeks a year.
Great for you! Can’t wait for our mid September trip! Love HHI!

Thank you. Good luck to your kids too! Lucky us!

It's been hard but we try to vacation when my ds doesn't have school or baseball (he pitches in college and plays away in the summers) so that is usually the second week of August. My dd never says no EVER to a vacation and being that we have been going in August for HHI or cruises or whatever, she has always been able to go since she wasn't in school either (however, just thinking about it, two years ago she couldn't go to HHI since she was doing On Campus Interviews for internships for law school). Up until this year, we still have been able to all take a vacation together at one point during the year.

However, I'm guessing as the kids get older and start to work it will be much more difficult. Even if they can get time off, spending the week with their mom/dad vs. friends or boy/girl friend, not sure I would win LOL We still pay for their vacations (they don't work...well my dd did work an internship job last summer but we don't ask them to pay for vacations) so maybe one day that will factor their choosing us to away with LOL

Looking forward to the Frosty Frog on Friday :)
