My friends and I are considering a relaxing christmas at Hilton Head this year.

I was wondering if any helpful DIS'er could share some Christmas experiences.

What restaurants might be open?

How was the weather??

Any special activities??

Any info you could share would be so appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Linda

We were there at Christmas time in 2007 and will be there again this year. We arrived December 27 the last time we went and found that most of the restaurants were open, but many of the shops were closed the week after Christmas. In addition, many restaurants had reduced hours. The weather ran the gamut. The first three days we were there, it got into the 70's. The next four days were highs in the low 40's and it was in the 20's at night. There were special activities for NYE and there appeared to be special activities for Xmas, but the resort and the activities were signficantly sparser than in the summer or spring time. We did the Disney bingo a couple times and did the resort tour. Both were fun.

This past Christmas it was warm through Jan 7th on Hilton Head.
Christmas day was about 68 degrees and sunny. The island picks up a bit in tourist traffic but it's still quite easy to get around. Most restaurants are open. Some close after New Year's day so they can get a vacation in.
Great time to ride bikes, golf or play tennis.
No bugs and no humidity!

We were there about 4 years ago. It was funn. We had a southern snowball fight (white socks balled up), my wife was wrapped in wrapping paper by our daughter, Santa was at Burgies den. We rented a studio but because they wanted to only use certain buildings we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom.

Wow, what a terrific upgrade! We've always wanted to see a 2 BR. We almost had our chance this last Thanksgiving. Because of a reservation screw up, we were going to have to transfer to a 2 BR for the last night. However, the evening beforehand, we got a call that we didn't have to move. Because we'd already had to play "musical rooms" several times, the idea of being able to stay put for 2 whole nights sounded great. But of course, now, we wish we'd stayed with our original move and gotten to see a 2 BR.
BTW, you're making the idea of Christmas at HHI sound lots of fun. Hmmmm, we're already doing Thanksgiving there, why not Christmas too?

to piggyback on this thread--we are not DVC owners (someday I hope) but we have a cash reservation for this Christmas at HHI. I am wondering if it is a good choice. Since we generally vacation in the summer where swimming is the main highlight, I'm scared we won't have enough to do at HHI, especially if the weather is too cool. Convince me I'm wrong! We'll be checking in Dec 23rd, out on the 27th.

Bibidi,

We are going to be there the same dates! We are checking in on the 23rd and out on the 28th.
