Hilton Head in July

I know that Hilton Head is a popular resort in July, we are wait listed for this coming July. What are our chances of getting in? Do members routinely book just to book and then cancel which opens up to those that are wait listed?

The wait list does work. Success will depend on what type of villa you have requested (there are only 21 Studios and 1BRs), how far down you ae on the waitlist and how many with current reservations will actually cancel.

Given the dynamic nature of the DVC reservation system, it's not at all unusual for plans to change over the next 6 months so villas do become available.

July and most of the summer months are very difficult to get, we added on there in 2002 and again last year to get 11 month window for summer. We did luck out one year and got 4 nights(sun-thur) in early august at 7 months. weekends in the summer are easier as they use huge points. Early June is also easier as schools have not gotten out. We will be there this year from July 2-6 and made reservations for 2 bedroom at 11 months. There are more 2 bedrooms than 1 bedrooms, so chances are better for the 2 bedroom. I know I have not cancelled a summer reservation and do not really know waitlist success, sorry. good luck.

We got a 2br for the last week of July at 7 months, but I had been calling for a month to get any summer week after the kids got out of school.

We added on at HHI so we could get the 11 month window since we like to go in the summer. We have lucked up on a cancellation on a last minute (7 months out) trip. Good luck!

Right now I am on a wait list for three days in June in a studio. I hope it comes through because it has been years since we have been there. But if it does not we have reservations at Vero Beach and that is very nice too. So my fingers as crossed, but that is what you get when you wait until the last minute to make travel plans.

....but it is a possibility. We bought an add-on @ Hilton Head for that very reason: its a small resort & books solid for the summer at more than 8 months out. People do cancel their existing reservations, though. Ourself would be an example: we currently have a studio reservation @ HHI for 5 nights of July 3,4,5,6,7 but won't be able to go because we are going to Hawaii instead! So if we don't get a relative or friend (lucky SALTY DOG!)to take our reservation we will be depositing it back into the availabilty pool.
