Hilton Head - beach swimmable in November?

We may have to cancel our WDW vacation this year but we have to use our points by December. My husband would like to check out HH... he loved Vero Beach, and loves to play in the water with the kids. We do not golf, and I don't do water sports. Would HH be a good choice?

Come November, you may be looking for wet suits! You can wade, but a full-body immersion is only for the very hardy!

We went the last week of Oct, first week Nov last year. The air temp was in the upper 70's and 81 the last day. The water temp dropped from 72 to 71 while we were there, brisk, but doable. we mostly played on the beach and swam in the two heated pools, the one at the beach house and the one at the resort. Plus, if the water is cool, shouldn't be any sharks!

Pools are heated and afternoon air temps will be OK, but the ocean may be a little brisk.

The area is great in Nov however.

On the contrary, sharks like the cool water ~ a very remote chance they will find you appetizing though!

We were at HHI (not at the Disney property though) in late October last year. It was warm at mid-day for swimming, might be chilly at 8am.

We rented bikes which was fun, but quickly found out how out-of-shape we are. One of the bikes had a bad tire -- check them before you ride off.

The outer banks are North Carolina. Frankly, I'm staying in ankle-deep water when we go this October.

HHI has very few "touristy" kids things other than 1 mini-golf/go-kart type of park. It would be relaxing, not busy, to go to HHI.

HH has lots to do besides golf, if you get tired of relaxing!

There are miles of bike trails, lots of great dining options, lots of unique shops, museums, theater choices, historical sites and many water related activities- ranging from fishing and crabbing, to kayaking, canoeing, sailing, parasailing, dolphin watching and plain old walking on the beach.

Personally, a stroll on the beach, followed by some quality reading time in a quiet spot can't be beat!

While we weren't there in November, we were at HHI at the beginning of March, which can be similar weather-wise.

We had an unseasonably warm week, with temps reaching the mid-80's. We enjoyed swimming in th eheated pools and wading in the ocean (which was actually comparable to the water temps we are used to in NJ in the middle of the summer). There were quite a few families playing on the beach, and some even venturing into the water.

In addition to the beach activities, we enjoyed the following activities: cycling, kayaking, a dolphin cruise, a behind the ears tour, relaxing on hammocks, pushing one another on the swings, shopping, and enjoying the area restaurants.

We also don't golf, but found plenty to do in the off-season, and didn't want to leave at the end of our stay.

Hilton Head is also in a great location if you would like to visit either Savannah or Charleston, both are within a reasonable driving distance and offer many wonderful things to see and do. Or if you don't want to drive, there are day trip cruises to Savannah (not sure if they run in Nov.).
