Is it worth the trip? What fun stuff for kids (ages 6 and 11) do they have there?

Thanks for any input!

It is a fun resort with lots of kid's activities. The one thing to keep in mind is the beach is not on the property of the resort. You have to drive or take the shuttle. To us, whether it was 1 mile or 10 miles away - we didn't get down to the beach as much as we'd like since packing everything up for the day and getting in the car was difficult for us with 2 kids (one was an infant). Also, there are no restaurants on site but you can get to some by walking across a small bridge over to a shopping area nearby. You can check out some websites -
disney.com & allearsnet.com for more info.

If you go ask this same question on the DVC board you'll also get many more responses as HHI is a DVC resort...sorry, haven't been personnally to give you much input on HHI specifically but there will be plenty of members there who own and or have been to HHI and can answer just about anything;)

We loved HHI! We were there in a 2bd that overlooked the pool over spring break and we had a great time. As for the beach not being on site, we didn't care. We spent a lot of time at the beach and there were 3 adults and 5 kids with us. It is a very short drive to the beach house and there is a restaurant and a snack bar at the beach house if you need it. Also, some can use the pool at the beach house if they want to while others use the beach. The kids found lots of fun things to do(campfire, fish painting on t-shirts, scavenger hunts, marsh walking-watching the crabs at low tide, storytelling, laying in the hammocks, playing at the playground and a dolphin cruise) besides swimming and beachcombing.

As for restaurants, we made all of our meals in our villa. The grocery stores and Walmart are very close and we had a great time making the meals when it was convenient for us and not having to wait to be seated and served.

Since we are DVC members, it was a very inexpensive and relaxing vacation for us. Our children ranged from 3 to 12 yrs. old, if that helps. We can't wait to go back!

HH is a wonderfully relaxing resort with lots of activities for both kids and adults. My kids (ages 14, 11 and 7 on the last trip last Easter) love the resort as much as going to WDW. Lots of bike riding, beach combing, dolphin tours and just plain hanging out at the pool. The resort itself is very beautiful and low country inspired. I don't mind the fact that the beach is about 1 mile away, its very convenient either by biking, taking the shuttle or taking your own car. The Cast Members at this resort are very dedicated and friendly and take the time to get to know your kids. Campfires and Pirate Treasure Hunt are our personal favorites. Do a search on the boards for pictures, it's a real gem. (Can you tell we love love love this place?)

HH is near the South Carolina/North Carolina border. We went at the end of May 2 years ago and temperatures were in the 60's. I was told this was uncharacteristically cold but my point is that prime time at Vero is probably mid-June through August if you want to have beach weather. At other times it can be hit or miss..

The excursion to Daufuskie Island was sensational. You'll want to reserve this before you get there, because the boat capacity is only 6. They run it whenever the low tide time is for the day. You'll see countless dolphins along the way, and the beach at Daufuskie is virtually deserted, allowing the kids to collect shells and sanddollars.

I thought it was near the SC/GA border???

Just having a senior moment. You are all right it is on the SC/GA border.
My point is that HH is far enough north so that you can't expect to have beach weather all year.

How many of the activities have an extra fee?

We have for gone to HH for years renting our own condo, but now that we own DVC I was thinking of trying this. Just wanted to get a handle on how much it will actually cost.

Thanks!

Man, I sure wish it was that close. We'd only be two hours away. We'd have to do an add-on to our add-on if this were the case :).

While there for Easter last year (mid-April) temps were mid 80's and wonderful and sunny- no rain- we went to Disney the week before HH and the weather was the same in both places. Average temps in HH in April are in the mid to upper 70's!
