Hilton Head another question

What are your favorite day trips out of Hilton Head and what are your favorites things to do when you get there?

We will be there the first week of November for 6 nights with two children age 11 and 9

We enjoyed walking around Beaufort--beautiful historic town about 45 minutes away. Take the kids on the Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge tour which is just off the island, after the bridge. If it isn't too cold, how about kayaking? I know these last 2 things arent' off-island, just fun adventures we've done. Have a great trip!

Yep, definitely Beaufort...charming, especially if you love antiques! Also, some people like taking the ferry to Daufuskie Island...we actually stayed on Daufuskie for a corporate trip and I pretty much hated it ...but there is some interesting history there so if a tour is offered, you might enjoy a half-day visit.

We had an awesome time roaming around Savannah. There is so much history in that city that we need to go back when we can spend more time. There are many walking tours (recommend them over the trolley tours) that are full of stories. Also, a visit to Leopold's Ice Cream shop is a MUST! If you go, watch the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil before you go to get an idea of what you might see.

We Always take a trip to Sea Pines. There is a gate fee, but the shops and food , the walk up to the Light House are fun, you can also rent bikes there and ride all day if you wish.

While day trips are always fun, leave some flexibility in your schedule---there's a LOT to do and see just on HH itself--6 days won't seem that long. The best thing about the area is the natural beauty and total relaxation that comes from being here. When you arrive, don't forget to pick up the Activity Guide that lists all the things going on at HH that month. If you still have time for a day trip, you can't go wrong with either Sav. or Beaufort or even Charleston (that would be a long day, though).

I would like to suggest the Coastal Discovery Museum. It is on the island shortly after you go under the bypass road if I remember correctly. The Museum is free (donations accepted) and there are lots of interesting exhibits for both kids and adults. Classes are offered about various subjects---animals, plant life, sea life, etc. There is also a very nice nature based gift shop in the museum with prices comparable to any retail outlet.

We did the dinner/fireworks cruise on the Palmetto Star. It leaves from Shelter Cove just over the bridge from Disney.
