Hi

This is is a bit of a silly question really, but my planing is generally going well, and I'm now looking at minute details

We have booked the Hilton/parking package. I understand that the parking will be on North Terminal somewhere - which we don't mind. However, we want to do Twilight check in and I'm not sure whether we should park in the general short term car park, use Twilight check in, walk through to the Hilton, check in, then take the car over to North Terminal.

I know in the Holiday Extras booking, it says that you can park for a 'short time' in the Hilton car park while you check in, but how long is a 'short time'. I would hate to get clamped if we decided to park in the Hilton while we checked in there and then used Twilight check in before permanently parking our car.

See what I mean about minute details:hyper:

When we have stayed there before we have parked in the small car park outside the hotel doors. It takes about 20 cars and you are allowed to unload and checkin into the hotel before moving the car. I think you would easliy get upto an hour before anyone hassled you. We have left the car checked into the hotel and then use twlight checkin before moving the car to long term.

Last year we parked in front of the Hilton (short term drop off parking only), checked in and took our bags to the room. I then went down and took the car to the car park (Summertime Special Car Park the other side of North Terminal) and caught the curtesy bus back to the terminal. It's then a short walk back to the Hilton. I grabbed a trolly on the way (usually plenty at the entrance to the Hilton). We all then went back down to the terminal to check in and grab something to eat and looked round the shops before going back to the room to try and get some sleep (not possible as we were all too excited LOL).

If you've booked through Virgin you get to use the car park at the side of the hotel - brilliant!

Hi

Thanks for the responses - looks like I might chance my arm and use the Hilton's short term car park whille we use Twilight Check-in.

In the past, we've never had more than about 15 minute wait, but I'm sure there are a few people who have suffered longer. Hopefully we can whiz through then check in at the Hilton before anyone notices how long we've been there.

so am i right in saying that when you've moved your car to the long stay car park after you've booked in,thats it you can not go back to your car?
I was thinking that we could take our overnight bag that we use at the hotel back to our car after weve checked out of the hotel the next morning

:earsgirl:

The short term parking at the Hilton whilst checking in at the hotel is more of a lay-by than a car park and I wouldn't recommend leaving the car there whilst you check in at the airline.

We did as you planned ... Parked in the short term park, checked in at the airport, walked back and checked in at the hotel then moved the car to the long stay park ... not a clamp in sight ;)

Have a great time

When we stayed in December we booked an overnight carpark at the hotel, did twilight check in and the next morning loaded the car with out overnight bags before DH moved it to long term parking.

Coming back was a hassle - such a struggle to get kids and bags onto a small bus to be taken out to long term parking. Everyone was pushing and shoving to get on - not a very pleasant return to the UK. There was also a long wait between buses.Next time we have decided that the kids and I will take the luggage back to the Hilton foyer, have a cup of tea and wait for DH to get on the bus (bag free) and bring the car to us

I was thinking about sending DH for the car when we came back while we wait at the airport.

Do you think it would be best to wait at the pick up point - where the airport buses pick up from, or in the Hilton foyer. Which would be the easiest for DH (with not a great sense of direction - although I could send DS with him) to find his way back to?

Maxine

I think the best place to wait would be in the Foyer of the Hilton - at least you would be warm and comfortable.
