I head that Obama didn't hold up well to McCain today. Here's a little nighttime reading that we should get used to seeing more and more of as this election moves to the general and the GOP comes out in full swing:

Catholic League slams priest, Obama
Posted May 30, 2008 1:13 PM

by Jim Tankersley

The Catholic League - a group dedicated to protecting the free-speech rights of Catholics "whenever and wherever they are threatened" - criticized Barack Obama sharply today for his ties to a Catholic priest who stirred controversy at Obama's home church last weekend.

At issue is the Rev. Michael Pfleger, an outspoken activist Catholic priest, whom Internet videos caught ridiculing Sen. Hillary Clinton while preaching at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Pfleger mocked Clinton's tears on the campaign trail and suggested her attitude in the race for the Democratic nomination was "I'm white. I'm entitled."

Obama repudiated the remarks as "divisive" and "backward-looking." Pfleger apologized for them in a statement. The pair are longtime friends; as a state lawmaker, Obama steered "earmarked" funds to Pfleger's church.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue criticized Obama's relationship with Pfleger, whom he compared to controversial former Obama pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.

"Senator Obama says he wants to bring people together," Donohue said in a press release. "Then why does he choose as his clerical friends people like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger? They are two peas in a pod, both equally divisive, separated only by the color of their skin."

Here's the full statement from Donohue:

"Most commentators are already focusing on the inappropriateness of the race-baiting comments by Father Pfleger. More serious is the venue in which he delivered his diatribe and his long-standing ties to Sen. Obama.

"Father Pfleger's tirade would be inexcusable anywhere, but it is even more offensive when it happens in a church. It does not matter that it was not his own, nor does it matter that it happened in a church that has a record of allowing demagogues to exploit it. When churches become forums for political rallies, both religion and the First Amendment are corrupted.

"Obama and Pfleger are no strangers. Indeed, when Obama was in the state senate in Illinois, he conveniently arranged for Father Pfleger's St. Sabina's Church to receive state monies for its social programs. Of course, the guardians of church and state separation said nothing then and they are saying nothing now. That's because they're all in the tank for Obama. Just as important, why is it that of all the wonderful Catholic priests in the Chicago Archdiocese, Obama long ago chose Pfleger to hang with? Truth be known, Pfleger has a very troubling history: he has welcomed the anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan to preach in his church; he has hired prostitutes to worship there; he has been arrested for defacing billboards; and he once urged the crowd at an anti-gun rally to hunt down a gun store owner 'like a rat' and 'snuff' him.

"Senator Obama says he wants to bring people together. Then why does he choose as his clerical friends people like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger? They are two peas in a pod, both equally divisive, separated only by the color of their skin."

South Dakota's Argus Leader endorses Hillary!!

Not bad, considering she's "done"

For the first time in memory, every state will play a role in choosing a nominee for the nation's highest office.

Some of those parts are small, but not ours: as one of the last two primary elections, South Dakota Democrats suddenly and improbably find themselves in a starring role.

That's an unlikely turn of events, as our state has improbably become a battleground in the long, hard race between two Senators seeking a spot at the top of the Democratic ticket: Barack Obama of Illinois and Hillary Clinton of New York.

The process feels similar at times, but the goal of a primary election is different from the race voters will decide in November. Our endorsement also is different. We will judge the candidates in this fall's general election when that time comes.

Obama could certainly become one of those candidates in the days ahead - at the time of this writing, his mathematical advantage is considerable. His appeal also is clear, and his campaign has been strong.

But Clinton is the strongest Democratic candidate for South Dakota.

Her mastery of complex policy detail is broad and deep, and her experience as a senator and former first lady matches that.

Measured against her opponent, Clinton is philosophically more moderate. That is likely a good thing for South Dakota.

Clinton's energy policy is forward thinking and wise. She advocates a broad federal research initiative to help solve our looming oil crisis. It's a plan that would join university researchers, private industry and individual inventors behind a common goal.

Is ethanol part of the answer? Clinton believes it is but not necessarily corn ethanol.

That is not precisely the answer South Dakota wants to hear. Corn-based ethanol has been a boon for farmers here. But the simple fact is that she probably is correct. Advances in cellulosic ethanol technologies could render corn ethanol obsolete and wasteful. Happily, South Dakota is poised to be a major player in the push to experiment with other kinds of ethanol.

Clinton has demonstrated a real commitment to Native American issues and will have visited several South Dakota reservations before the race is over. Clinton is precisely correct when she says that people outside the region have a poor understanding of the troubling trends on our reservations. Federal attention could help. That includes but is not limited to higher-ranking posts in the federal bureaucracy.

Her truly universal health care plan would be welcomed by thousands of South Dakotans. Even on reservations, where health care is nominally universal already, such a plan would be welcome. The federal government would never be allowed to subject everyday Americans to the kind of care Native Americans living on reservations routinely receive.

Obama is justifiably credited as a powerful speaker, but Clinton holds her own easily. As those who have attended her South Dakota rallies can attest, she is quick on her feet and energetic. She frames her ideas clearly in speeches and answers questions with genuine directness.

Her resilience and determination never should be questioned. She has met or overcome every challenge or roadblock in her way, and there have been many. Her determination to carry the nomination process through to its real conclusion has perhaps earned her a grudging respect from those who would never support her.

Clinton might not win this race. In fact, it's a long shot. But whatever some might say, the race is not over, and her name is on the ballot. Win or lose, she's also the best Democratic candidate for South Dakota.

I did it through the main DNC website, I just sent to it Howard Dean too, I'm bored and everyone has gone to bed. ;)

I sent them letters a few months ago....still NO response.

Can I just say that I absolutely LOVE Geraldine Ferraro.

She put into words much of what I have been feeling.

:thumbsup2

Wait, weren't we all voting for Evil Genius last month. You people flip flop too much. I say DISUNC for VP. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Sounds good too me. Good Pay, No work! My kinda job!::yes::

No way!

DisUnc for Prez and Evil Genius for VP! :thumbsup2

Thanks! But I will let EG run with the Ball. Bout time we had a Woman President anyway!:thumbsup2

McCains 'lifetime' legislative score is 24; his score for year 2007 is 0.

Obama's 'lifetime' score is listed at 82. his score for 2007 is 67.

(apparently everyone's score is down in 2007)...

They go into some detail, if it's a matter of interest, on their website...

sorry for the interruption....

:)

McCains Liftime has more substance than Obamas lifetime. Very unfortunate to compare voting averages of both!

I bet that DisUnc carries Florida and gets more of the popular vote. Oh wait....

;)

I WILL get all the 'all important" Orlando Vote!:thumbsup2 Not like they will count em or anything!:smokin:

Just playin' around. This season definitely needs more humor. :thumbsup2

Now about DisUnc, do we know where he stands on refillable mugs and pool hopping. Let's get to the important issues.

Refillable Mugs - If you can find them from the last WDW visit, and they are not corroded from laying in the trunk for 9 months, and want to pack them...Go Ahead & reuse them.

Pool Hopping - If you have nutin better to do then run around WDW property in your Bathing Suit....Be my guest! But I am sure the water at the POP is the SAME water they have in GF!:cool1:

Life is short...Reuse & Hop to your hearts content!:hippie:

DISUNC, please post you platform. We need to make this decision by June 1st or Nancy Pelosi will be mad at us. :goodvibes

Dont want her mad at me, she will scold with a evil grin!:scared1:

Wow, we're dead tonight.

Did anyone read the article by Geraldine Ferraro?
I feel so terrible about this it is killing me. My fear is she will go back and something terrible will happen to her....hell how do I live with that....:worried: She knows that we all want her to stay and she is seeing the shrink to discuss it. Why is it that some parents just cant do the right things by there kids. My sister can help her if she chooses and she needs her mom so much that her being away from her is breaking my heart. They need to patch things up before it is to late and she is 18 and gone. Than there is no chance. I have her doing a list of pros and cons this weekend and we will sit down and talk about them. Sure hope she stays.
Whyat a difficult situation, Got Disney :( I hpe everything works out for your niece. Thankfully she has you on her side. I'm sure she appreciates everything you are doing even though she complains.

Oops.. I think I'd skipped over some posts without realizing it.

Sorry Pumpkin, I didn't realize that you'd already posted the Geraldine Ferraro article until DISUNC quoted it.

I really like Ferraro. She's got the guts to say things other's won't. ::yes::

You can't just vote on personality. Issues matter. Even if DISUNC is untrustworthy and associates with lowlife "spiritual advisers" his stands on the issues are all that matter. :thumbsup2

I don't know about the issues, I'm voting for him because I like his hair!;)

Hair is of vital importance in this campaign. I could never elect anyone with bad hair. Green hair is minimally acceptable, but if anyone with magenta hair gets elected, it is definitely grounds for massive riots.

Anybody watchin/listening the rules committe Meeting????

I have been catching bits & pieces of it.

One very interesting thing that was brought up is that it was not a "Rule" to take your name of the ballot! No such rule excists.
And Obamas camp wont/cant answer why he (and others candidates) took their name off!

I always wondered why he took it off in MI & not Fl????:confused3
I wish someone ask that!

I decided not to watch because I figured that my BP would just skyrocket.

As for Obama, why did he remove his name in MI? That's an interesting question.

FLa law won't let the names be taken off the ballot unless the candidate will not be running in the general ... or something to that effect.

Well, I think that I know the story but I can’t currently back myself up with proof as I’m not forking over money to order an archived paper from the Des Monies Register.

But, I recently read an article that referenced an article by the Des Monies Register that was published in October 2007. Apparently, Obama is the one who petitioned, or whatever he had to do, to get Uncommitted added to the MI ballot. If I understood correctly, the Uncommitted was not on the ballot until Obama had it put there. Obama then took his name off the MI ballot (with Edwards soon following, but I have a feeling that Obama didn’t plan for that) and it (again, according to the news article from the Des Monies Register that I don’t have access to) became public knowledge to vote ‘uncommitted’ for Obama. (< -- that’s why I think Obama probably didn’t plan for Edwards to follow suite).

Why would Obama do this, you ask? Simple. The MI votes weren’t ‘supposed’ to count and polls indicated that Obama was losing that state by a large percentage. By people voting Uncommitted they were still ‘voting’ for him – again, that was made aware publicly - and then Obama went to IA and made big deal about that state being the first to vote for him. It was all a political move that turned out to be a great decision for him due to what’s now occurring.

Take it for what it’s worth, but here’s something from Wikipedia:

On December 10, 2007, the Michigan Democratic Party issued a press release stating that the primary would be held on January 15, 2008, and that the Democratic ballot would contain only six choices: Hillary Clinton, Christopher Dodd, Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich, Uncommitted, and Write-in.[10] The press release also urged supporters of Biden, Edwards, Obama and Richardson to vote "uncommitted" instead of writing in their candidates' names.[10] In order for any such write-in votes to be counted, those candidates would have needed to file additional paperwork by January 4, 2008. None did so.[11]

By any chance do you have access to THE DES MONIES REGISTER?????:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I'll buy into your explaination, without the "DisBoard Community Board Court Of Law" official legal binding evidence submission attachment!!!!!;)

HAROLD ICKES IS MY HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So now what? Appeal to the full committee and then fight on the floor of the convention?

Sounds like it! Is it all about them giving Barak all the 'uncommited" in MI!

However the 1/2 vote thing is interesting...why didnt the other two states (that Barak won) that moved their primaries up...get 1/2 votes????????

Sumtin tells me this thread will go on for a bit longer!:lmao:

Because they received waivers - long prior to the votes - to allow them to do so, in order to diversify the "early" voting outside of just Iowa and New Hampshire.

Interestingly, your "hero" voted to strip Florida and Michigan of all their delegates the first time around.
