Fair question.

I am Catholic, and many (if not most) priests hold similar political points of views on these topics. I don't go for their point of view, I go to receive the sacraments. Their political points of view are as uninteresting to me as their taste in TV shows, and thoughts about baseball.

ditto....although I would prefer if my Priest was a Yankee fan. ;)

 Now why did you have to go and bring sports into a perfectly good political thread :sad2:? Next thing you know you'll have a Red Sox and Yankees logo in your signature and I'll have a Cubs and White Sox logo in mine.

My computer is back up and running normal again :surfweb: :woohoo:

Although I don't post too much to this thread I do love to read it and post every now and then.

I do have to say I think Obama will have a mess to straighten out soon over the Rev/Pastor.

With all this talk about churches and pastors I thought I'd ask you guys-Where does Hillary go to church-or does she?

She's a Methodist. I'm not sure where (or if) she actually goes to church. But to me, that's not the issue. For the most part, I don't care which church Obama attends.

What bothers me is the fact that he's chosen a church that for the last 20 years has had a very outspoken minister. He says things that I find VERY offensive. Personally, I don't think they even belong in a Christian church. I assume (maybe incorrectly) that these things are not as offensive to Obama or he wouldn't be going there. But most of all, I'm shocked that this is the man he has chosen to name as his spiritual advisor and moral compass. And then he says he doesn't share his views? I find this puzzling.

MJ, if you attend a church with a priest that doesn't share your views...I can see that. But I'd bet he's not as vocal as the guy we're talking about. I'd also hazard a guess that he's not the guy you'd align yourself with during your campaign for president. This is what really concerns me.

I'm really not trying to cause trouble. I just don't understand. :confused3

Me too, and I really don't care either. The only reason I'm asking is because all the fuss over Obama is making me wonder who her moral compass is. It's not a make or break voting thing-I'll still vote for whichever one gets the nomination-I'm just curious.

All I know about Hillary's religion is that she's a methodist. :confused3

And that's the way it should be - shouldn't it?

Obama's preacher said some things way over the top.

It wouldn't be an issue - but the campaigns (both) are now in a tit tat competition of who has more politically incorrect advisers.........

For Cripes Sake! This has nothing to do with religion!!!

This is not an argument about what this man said about the Gospel, or Jesus or even about any other religion. The topic he is ranting about is entirely secular but just happens to take place in the church. Which is entirely inappropriate - no matter what religion you are.

This is a huge problem for Obama - not because he attends the church - but because he has elevated this preacher to a position of influence over his life and decisions outside of the church. 20 years is a very long time to simply shake your head and benignly disagree with such a divisive message.

Seriously - is there anything that Obama can do that his supporters would not defend? If I had found out that Hillary had attended a church that preached white power from the pulpit - I would drop my support of her like a hot potato even if she just sat through one sermon - let alone 20 years of it.

Fair enough-but if it's important who a candidate's moral compass is-then shouldn't Hillary be telling us that?

If HC is asked who or what her "moral compass" is, i suspect she'll give an answer. I'm glad she doesn't wear it on her sleave.

Regarding Obama's 20 year Church affiliation......I have no comment, but am interested how these videos will be perceived & how this will play out.

hound <----(is waiting for HC to be accused for making the preacher's videos.)

There is nothing wrong with preaching about black pride in a black church. Would you fault a Russian Orthodox church for preaching in support Russians? Or a Conservative Jewish synagogue for supporting Jews here in the US? The fact is that "white power" has been and still is the de facto power here in the US and it does not need to be preached about.

True. This has to do with the fact that Obama claims that this is the man who is his "moral compass" This is the man whose views Obama respects. I am not so upset that Obama went to his church. I can understand that. There are many reasons for going to church that may have nothing to do with the pastor. BUT (and this is a huge BUT) when you admittedly admire the man who has such racist views, it raises huge questions about your own views on the subject.

Nope - I have no problem with black pride. Honestly - is that what you think that man was preaching? (FYI - I went to youtube and watched everything that was posted - and while some of it could be viewed as black pride - the majority of it was white bashing. That is what I find unacceptable.)

WE (americans) KNOW Hillary for at least 17 years, we are familiar with her "moral compess"!
No one really knows Obama (despite what you believe). Obama himself brought his Pastor into this campaign.

Not for nuttin Fitz, but if you dont believe why Religion is so important to a candidate, why do believe it is important for us to know your religious views (hense the logo in your siggy)?

RELIGION is a issue in any campaign. Remember 19 very religious men hijack plane & killed many people on 9/11, all in the name of GOD!!!! Would you ignore their religion if one of them was running for president too?
