Hillary on GMA...

Name one front runner (real contender here) that doesn't need an entire baggage container from either party.

I don't think any matches Rudy's, but that's a matter of personal opinion, I admit. As I've said before in other threads, Rudy has a larger than life, almost super hero reputation in parts of the country that haven't lived with him as New Yorkers have, so to speak. Dig around a bit and read some bios on Mr. Giuliani. Then make up your own mind. I, for one, would never vote for him, and not because he's a Republican. I happen to agree with a lot of his social views (at least until he changes them). It's the man I don't like.

From what I know about Rudy, I like him. But granted, all I know is that he cleaned up the streets of NYC (now the safest big city in the US), has moderate social stances (:cheer2: ), and he led the city through the toughest times this area has seen. I have heard some of these stories from NYers so I'm curious as to what further investigation into his record brings about.

If he does get the Republican nomination, I hope I learn more about him but as of now, he beats most of the Democrats that are up there for the nomination, for me.

Indeed

I know plenty about Rudy, New Yorkers do not own the franchise on knowledge about Rudy Guiliani. I don't think he has any more or less character than say Hilarry Clinton or John Edwards or John McCain. Obama may be the possible exception, but only because he's so new to national politics. He hasn't had time to rack up the number of scandals the rest of them have, but he certainly seems the type to have skeletons, I have high hopes for many hours of entertaining scandals from Obama. :)

Well I, for one, will not vote for anyone who is either a Democrat or a Republican because I see them as mostly the same. YMMV. ;)

I love watching the liberals and conservatives fight with eachother over all of their underwhelming candidates. Election season is so fun.

Sure thing - he gets the nomination, I'll put up a Rudy for Prez signature until the election.

I'll take a piece of that. If he can get the nomination without compromising his stand on social issues such as abortion and gay rights, I'll do the same. Congrats to the Republicans would be in order if they finally moved back to the center......But Richie has to put up a "Hilllary For President" if he loses.

I'm pretty sure none of the other candidates have ever been slapped with a restraining order to keep them from bringing their mistress into the mayor's mansion (where their wife and children reside.) I don't think any other candidate has ever sent out their lawyer to publicly trash the mother of their children (McCain's first wife supported his adultery and divorce; while Edwards and Clinton are supported by their first and only spouses.)

I don't think any of that should mean a whit in picking the next president. The only thing that matters is who will do the best job of President. I'm not so sure others agree.

First, no strings. He wins the nomination or he doesn't. No offense, but let's stay out of the nuance and actually make this one black or white.

As for my signature? Well, to be fair, can you find me a Democrat that's not pro choice, against gun control, and opposes civil unions?

Not off the top of my head, but Rudy boy is headed in that direction, hence my stipulation, and the larger point I wanted to make. Democrats have always been fairly consistent, more or less, over the years. Republicans have gone from Barry Goldwater, and indeed Ronald Reagan, to a right wing love fest scenario in not that long a time frame. When the Republicans nominate someone that fairly resembles what Republicans used to stand for, I'll put whatever you want me to in my sig. Might even just vote for one (gasp).

I'm not argueing that Rudy has good character. I'm simply saying that, IMO, none of the front runners have great "character" I love watching the party loyalists fight for their candidates when ALL of their candidates stink.

Nah...we arent dead...just waiting for Thompson or maybe even Jeb to jump in. We are getting close to the implosion point for the Dems. I think they will destroy eachother trying to get to the top. I love those bumper stickers with that date, ummm 1.20.09 i believe, last day of Bush in office....but what it should really say is..... 1.20.09 first day of work for the next Republican President.;)

When did Thompson become a neo-con? And Jeb isn't going anywhere except to the family vacation cottage. Puhleeze, you don't actually believe this country is going want to say "President Bush" for another 4 years.

I agree with that. I also don't think they are going to want to say President Clinton.

I'm not putting money on who will actually win, it depends on how stupid the Republican Party is, really in who they chose. But I would put money on Hilarry not winning.

Hopefully they're just as dead as the far left has been. Speaking of the far left, you gotta have your panties all in a wad about Giuliani. Another endorsement today, this one from Steve Forbes. I know it's early but polls have him beating anyone the Democrats throw up there.

He favors abortion rights, gun control, and same-sex unions yet the far left apparently thinks of him as a "freak show".

That all-inclusive tent you have there just ain't shrinking, it's imploding.

Believe me, there's nothing going on in my panties over Rudolph Giuliani. Short little bald guys who were married to their 2nd cousin for 14 years just doesn't do it for me. YMMV

My only point about Giuliani is how quickly the party of "family/traditional" values has no problem hanging their hat on a man who's been married 3 times, tried to move his girlfriend into Gracie Mansion while still married to his 2nd wife and his children were still living there.

And his support for abortion rights, gun control, and same-sex unions makes him my kind of Republican and makes the Republican religious right go apoplectic over the betrayal of their beloved Christian values by their Republican party. :lmao:

I'm putting my money on Richardson for the Democrats and either Thompson or Hagel for the Republicans.

I think what your actually seeing in an emergence of the majority of the Republican party. Average, regular Americans who were held hostage by the party's far right extremists for the last however many years.

Sadly, for the Democrats, I put my money on Hilarry winning the primary, but definately not the general.

As for the Republicans, I can't figure just what they're gonna do yet, at the primary. The evangelicals are a fickle bunch.

You have more courage than I do. I can't get past the "I'm wasting my vote" mentality concerning a third party candidate. I'm assuming, of course, that you vote for a third party. Perhaps you don't vote at all, and as I can attest to, sometimes that's very tempting.

It took me some time to get over the idea that the two are pretty much the same. Once you come to terms with that, it's easy. I do vote third party, only for fun though. I mostly vote because I think the local and to a lesser degree, state issues are more likely to affect my day to day life then who the current clown in chief is. ;)

I have a theory, all politicians are certainly crazy and most likely sociopaths... (we need a twiligh zone smilie)

Interesting philosophy. I'm too old, uptight, and set in my ways to think your way, but as I said before, sometimes it's tempting! ;)

Dare I say...that's what my Dad says, LOL!

He votes Republican every time without fail, but is an atheist, cannot stand the religious right and can only be described as a liberal in terms of social issues. He's a paradox. I'm working on him, I'll get him to vote Libertarian or something before long. :)
