Highway Views in Hojo Rooms Question

So I'm calling for our December trip this weekend and looking through the reservations online, the only room type with 1 king bed for our dates is a highway view. Can anyone tell me about this? Is it noisy? What's the view out the window?

Not like any of this really matters, well the noise part does, not so much the view, but I'm just curious... :rotfl:

Any help would be wonderful! :flower3:

Our experience with the " highway view" was that it was waaaay too noisy! I am a pretty heavy sleeper, but we only lasted one night before I had to ask for a different room.
I'd definately avoid it if you can. You may have to go for a 2 queen room but, for us, it was worth it.

We have stayed in building 1 of the HOJO several times.

The "view" is of the parking lot and the highway... parked cars and cars speeding by.

The noise doesn't bother me too much, but I also grew up in an area with very active train tracks that weren't too far from my house, so it doesn't really faze me.

Thank you for your responses!

Do you think sleeping with the air conditioning on would drown the noise? We usually sleep with it on because boyfriend is constantly hot and always sleeps with the air on (maybe it's comforting?). DBF is the same way, chesiregirl about noise. He lives near active traintracks too and when I'm there or on the phone I swear it sounds like a train is going through his living room.

I'm going to call and see if any garden pool views are available. I know they have some king bed rooms in the building that has garden pool views. I'm not going to reserve the rooms until Friday but I'll call and see what's available tomorrow. Maybe it's different than what's on the website.

The air conditioning unit in our room was very quiet, it would not have drowned out any noise. Our room was a park view, but when we stepped out onto the balcony, the freeway noise was very loud. We found our NQQ1 room to be very well insulated and quiet on the inside.

I took a video on the balcony, and you can hear the freeway noise: http://s296.photobucket.com/albums/mm193/avalon451/?action=view&current=101_2541.flv

That said, we always bring a small "white noise" machine (a fan would work well, too) and that helps-- also with the people in the hallway returning late at night and slamming their doors!. Even with the white noise machine, I noticed when I woke in the mornings that I could hear a very low rumble from the rush hour traffic. Again, it was quiet in the room itself-- it was more like a distant rumble, and it didn't bother us.

We stayed in a highway view room on one of our last minute trips. It was only for one night (we drove down Sat and drove home Sun) but I wouldn't stay in one again unless I had no other choice. It was definitely too noisy for me, and I lived near train tracks as a kid, live near them now and live near highway 12. I just couldn't deal with I5.

Thank you Kerri and Gail! They have a 2 full bed room with a garden view available, I think we’ll book that even though we don’t need 2 beds.
I live right off the 101 and on some nights I can’t sleep with my window open because the freeway noise is too loud. With my window shut it’s fine, but with the window open especially in the mornings it’s pretty loud.

Gail, that’s a very good idea about a white noise machine. We usually are always woken up in the morning by people and door slammings when we’re on trips. Where do you get yours at? Is it easy to travel with?

Wow, we've had ours for like 10 years; we got it for our kids when they were babies (they sure napped better through their big sisters' noisiness) and it still works. I used to see them around a lot more, like in Target, etc than I have lately. But this one is similar:

And they're pretty small, about the size of a clock radio, maybe. Not hard to pack.

I think you're probably smart to get the garden view room.

Other than that, I bet you'll love HoJo. We found it so comfortable. The only thing that could have been better was the water pressure in the shower-- not great.

Good luck!:)

We could hear the Highway on the other side of the building, so I can't imagine how loud it must be on the highway side. I like quiet when I sleep, so it's not something I would go for! LOL

Thanks for the link, Gail, I need to look into it. Yeah, I think we are better off with the garden view, even if we do have 2 beds. I think we'll love the Hojo too! Woohoo!!

Jen, you're right, it probably is loud on the highway side, especially from what I've been hearing from everyone!

Gail -

I thought of you on our recent stay - when I got to our room I thought - Hey - I'm just three floors down from where Gail was!! We were room 1401. Loved it - no noise at night - on the end - very happy. There was that Pine Tree Trunk dead center of our Park view off the balcony, but we didn't go out there much anyway. It looks more obtrusive in the pic here than it actually was.

I meant to write one, I do have some things to say :rotfl: but the later it gets, and where is the time???? But thanks for asking. I really enjoyed your trip report. I have a 14 year old - boy - and I did get to see that smile too

Oh, come on, you can do it like Hound 109-- one hour at time! :rotfl: Seriously, it was kind of hard to write it, but when I did, I was so glad-- it really helps you remember and cement your memories, and make you relive it. Let's hear about it! :)
