High thread count sheets, which ones do you buy?

Do how high of a count do you buy? Is there a particular brand and/or store you go with?

A higher thread count doesn't always mean higher quality. Have you ever seen the 1,000 thread count sheet sets online for about $20? I can only imagine how thin and low quality they are!

At JCPenney, the Royal Velvet 400tc Wrinkleguard sheet set has over 3,000 reviews and 4 1/2 stars (out of 5). I do have a set of Royal Velvet sheets that are about 2 years old and I love them (aside from I think the sheet overhang is too short on the sides for me). I don't know exactly what thread count mine are...the tag says Royal Velvet 100% Egyptian Cotton. They are sort of a slate blue/green/gray with a thin pinstripe...I didn't see them on the website (at least not my pattern). Anyway, I've been very pleased with the softness of them and they are thicker sheets. The pillowcases have a hidden pocket inside where you tuck the pillow in so you don't see the bare pillow on the end...I love that feature! :)

I recently purchased Kirkland brand sheets at Costco and they're great so far. My only complaint with 99% of sheets is that the flat sheet never seems wide enough to me. I like a lot of overhang on the sides so most sheet sets don't work perfect for me...but I suppose they're adequate to most people because I seem to be the only person to complain about that. ;) My favorite sheets based on sheet width and softness are the Charisma sheets at Costco...however, I stopped buying them because they have a major issue with the fitted sheet ripping/wearing a hole through in less than a year. I've purchased 3-4 sets of those but finally had to stop because I can't support a company that clearly has a manufacturing problem (many other reviewers stated the same fitted sheet hole issue).

Wow, those are high. But they are on sale. Will catch them next time they go on sale, perhaps the holidays. I will get me some of those sheets.

I bought my last set of sheets at Ikea. They are holding up beautifully and are so comfy!

I have had the same issue with the fitted Costco sheets getting holes in them; I sewed them up, but it was annoying. I didn't realize this is a common problem.

I also find flat sheets are not wide enough. I don't have a particularly high mattress, but there's never enough sheet to tuck in properly at the sides. This is true of many different brands, except for some linen sheets I bought at Restoration Hardware.

I have no idea the thread count, but my favorite set of sheets is from LLBean. I have a couple of Martha Stewart sheet sets, but they didn't hold their shape - the top sheet with with embroidery warped a bit in the first wash. DH talked me into buying bamboo sheets while were on a Disney Cruise. I can't stand them. They're too short and they ripple when you try to move them....they don't stay still. It's really hard to make a bed that way.

ETA: I just looked at LLBean - they're 220 count percale.

I was curious about the Royal Velvet Sheets from JCPenny. I too am in the market for some quality sheets and am impressed with the reviews. On the website, there is a coupon code for 50% off bedding which brings down the cost of a queen set from $130 to $65. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. The sale ends tomorrow.

I have a set of LL Bean percale. They are wrinkley buggers and the top of the flat sheet has warped. I do not iron my sheets, so I was irritated about that not top seam washing and drying smoothly. I don't remember this being an issue when I was a kid. Pull the sheets out of the dryer, and fold them or put them right back on the bed... No issues.

I then bought a set of cheap percale onsale at Kohls (their Big One brand) and these buggers are like IRON!

I grew up on percale and prefer a crisp cool sheet.

My mom has given me some Northern Nights (QVC) sheets and they felt wonderful but all the fitted sheets ripped. I had never had that happen before!

That's because of the high thread count. The threads are just too fine and they rip like tissue paper.

I just bought some Kirkland Brand sheets as well from Costco. So far I am pleased. I have had these before but read online that quality was down. But after several washes I am happy with the new set. I hope they last as long as my last set.

I usually buy the 500 thread count Better Homes and Gardens sheets from Walmart on Black Friday, when they're on sale for $9.99. My requirements for sheets are that they be more than 200 TC, be 100% cotton (no microfiber, because I HATE those), and be white so I can bleach them. The BH&G sheets have held up to weekly bleaching for 3 years now on all 5 of our beds.

I really like the Threshold Performance 400 tc from Target. The deep pocket fitted sheet never moves and they don't get all stretched out. They're also very soft and smooth and really feel nice to sleep on. Once we tried them I started swapping out all of our bedding for these. I usually get them when on sale but the regular price is about $50 for Q size.

I have a set that came from JCP. I don't know the brand but I have used them for at least 8 years and they have held up wonderfully! We use them for about 8 months out of the year and wash/dry them weekly.

I bought a super high thread count luxury set from the state fair a few years ago. Add that to the list of terrible fair purchases, they stink!

I finally replaced some really old sheets and bedding this summer. I bought Royal Velvet Wrinkle Free 325 TC sheets at JCP. I ended up paying $35 after a $65 clearance sale then applied coupons and reward dollars. They are awesome! Even DH commented about how much he likes them. I almost bought another set that was clearanced out yesterday but am trying to pay off some debts and don't want to buy any unneeded things right now. Tempting though!

I have the same complaint about many of the flat sheets being too short on the edges and the BOTTOM.... I do have a pretty tall top mattress. I wonder if I should get a queen size fitted and a king size flat? Since they are usually sold separately?

I like percale sheets, which are generally cheaper, have a lower thread count, and they feel crisp. I really dislike sateen sheets, they just creep me out. No microfiber, either. Cotton for me.

I have gotten the type I prefer at LL Bean and Bed Bath and Beyond. They sometimes do get a little wrinkly but I either iron or ignore that.

Love the Threadhold brand sheets from Target. They are 400 count. Don't pill and they are supper soft. Love the little tag sewn on the sides that tell if what part of the sheet you are holding such as "side" or "top/Bottom" makes changing sheets easier.

We have an 18" mattress and the sheet fit great with lots of extra to tuck under for both he fitted and flat sheet

I have two sets of the Target threshold ones too. So smooth and cool. Mine are at least 6 years old and there is no pill. I got the first set for a shower gift. The second I managed on clearance.
