We just received an invitation to a party in the UP of Michigan for the daughter of DH's friend. We have not seen this girl in probably 15 years. DH & her dad have been friends forever. They talk on the phone probably once a year and we exchange Christmas cards. I don't even remember the last time DH saw his friend -- easily 5 years ago.
We will not be attending the party. It would be a costly weekend (at least much more than I want to spend on someone we don't really know) by the time we take time off of work, travel up there and pay for accomodations. I'd much rather spend the $$'s on something my family would actually enjoy doing.
So, here's the dilemma. I think sending a card wishing her good luck is sufficient. DH feels that we should send her at least $25 along with a card.
What would you do??
