What is a class ring ceremony???
We were givin the ring in an envelope in homeroom passed out like yesterdays homework.
Not much ceremony there.
Before being on this board I'd never even heard of these ceremonies and let me start off by saying that I don't approve of them at all.
Does the school provide the class rings free of charge or is this a school-sponsored activity that deliberately excludes kids who can't afford the stupid rings?
Sorry, but if it's the latter, my kid wouldn't be going on principle. It's like having a special ceremony for kids who go to Bermuda on Spring Break. Woo hoo, look at us, we have money to burn, aren't we lucky!
I also happen to think class rings are a waste of money and I'd be wondering what kickback the school is getting from their sale that they have a ceremony about them.
I agree that a class ring ceremony would be a slap in the face to those students who couldn't afford to have one.
We had the big ring to walk through too. I went to public school in Baltimore. In fact, my DH has a picture of him and his date walking through a huge ring fashioned over a threshold in his military school. It's pretty funny!
How about having to go straight home to take care of their brothers/sisters, make sure they are taken care of, fed, etc., because their parents don't or won't.Let's say the parents can't afford the ring. If the child really wants one, what's stopping them from getting a job to pay for it?
So because someone may not be able to afford something, it shouldn't be offered for those who can?

I'm looking forward to "wasting" my money on my son's class ring. As a matter fact we'll be "wasting" money on a year book, trips, the pin ceremony, pictures, prom...:woohoo
