High School class of 2011

Well the end of high school is near for us.. he took gf and went to pick up his tux for prom on Friday.. Sat they are going to Great America and graduation is on Sunday..tomorrow is last event I will go to.. the spring sports awards, then that is it..:sad1: i guess i will adjust to having 2 in college..sigh..sob.. the end of an era .. but the beginning of a new chapter..

It's the last week here, finals are over, and graduation is Saturday; followed by prom on Monday.

I'm having it really rough, my mom is in the hospital and not doing well, so a week that should have been filled with happy planning, is now filled with running back and forth to the hospital (an hour away)

I can't wait to see him on Saturday getting his diploma, and see him all dressed up in his tux for prom.

Frankly, the way our graduation is set up this year just plain *sucks*.

3:00 on a Friday at another high school (that has a big enough Field House to seat everyone and is a rival to ours) plus there are about 500-600 kids graduating, it will be a zoo...
the thing won't be done until around 6pm...yeah, I am sure I want to be driving around the Metro area on a Friday getting to and from a completely-different frigging high school
that has some of the worst traffic getting in and out of its lots I have ever seen...seriously, I've gone to other events there and the traffic is insane.

I would rather any possible folks who want to come celebrate would come to the Convocation the Wednesday before, that will be nice, the kids who won scholarships and made 4.0+GPAS and other honors will be recognized, plus the ceremony will be held at the actual high school. They get to wear their cap & gowns, it'll be nice. But I have a sinking feeling that relatives will insist on coming to the actual graduation.

Oh, and you should see the dress code for the graduates...girls *must* wear white or light-colored dresses and heeled shoes (well, they can't wear flip-flops or tennis shoes so what's left..., boys *must* wear dark pant and white shirts, no shorts, no jeans. I'm kind of thinking...hmmmm...sweltering Field House, hot cap & gowns....what does it matter what the heck the kids wear under their gowns? I mean, I'm as old-school as they come. The kids will have to pass through check-points. What the heck for? *gasp* shorts & flip-flop? Oh, the SCANDAL.

grump, grump, grump.

Prom was last Sat. followed by the all night after prom party. The hypnotist was the highlight of the night! The prom was held at a ski lodge with beautiful grounds for pictures and they had the chair lift running for the kids!

Last night was awards night where they give academic and sports awards as well as scholarships. They also had a slideshow, somehow I managed to hold it together and not cry.... It was so hot and we had tornado warnings so it was quite the night!

Graduation is tomorrow night on the football field and the weather is supposed to be perfect!! They have rehearsal today at 10:30 followed by the senior picnic. It's been a busy week!

We're having DS's party the following weekend, which is when all the out of town relatives are coming. DS16's band will play which will be awesome!

Awards tonight and graduation in two weeks. I am also trying to discourage people from feeling like they have to go to the actual event. It's at 8am, which is fine by me since it's so hot, but way too early for those having to travel.

My son got his housing assignment last week, which was a surprise because they had said mid-July. He was a little bummed at first because he got his absolute last choice--the dorm is off by itself, practically off-campus. The dorm everyone says "all the dorms are great except that one". But I told him that by the end of first semester, these people will be his best friends and he'll be so glad he got that dorm (hope that's true), and he shrugged off the initial disappointment. There is already a facebook group and he's "met" a bunch of people, though not his roommate. He sent the roommate a message through the housing website (they don't give out the other person's name, just a number) but hasn't heard back yet.

On the bright side, there's a dining hall right in the dorm and each room already has a microfridge, so I'm glad we don't have to worry about buying that.

DD18 and I leave tomorrow for orientation. Then, we have the whole summer ahead of us. If she doesn't get a job this summer, i think I'll take her down to visit my mother for 4-5 days. Mom never gets to go to the movies anymore, unless we take her, and she has expressed how much she loves to go to the movies with DD. We live 400 miles away, though. I think maybe we'll need to make a list and have an On Demand weekend before DD goes off to college :goodvibes

The big day is here! My DS graduates in about 2 hours! :cool1:
I can't believe it's all about to end, it's been a great year, a great 4 years of high school, actually and I am so proud of the man my boy has become.

Senors! Yeah we have Seniors!

But all that comes with the cost of college, which one, apply to collegesm, getting accepted, Senior Prom, etc..

So as we embark on the thrilling year.. lets chat..

My baby, yes my baby , is going to be a senior.. the football team and marching band have started, he is getting ready with friends to enter senior year..

Last week of work, lots of fun with friends, then down to businss of sorts..

He has visited several colleges ( we are Midwest) - THE Ohio state, Miami of Ohio, U of Indiana, Perdue, U of Ill, U of Florida and U of Iowa. Still not sure where he will apply but it looks like u of Indiana and Illinois.

He was all interested in USC - but we cant afford it ... he also likes U of Texas and U of North Carolina.. we havent visited but.. just yesterday he said maybe he will look at U of Wisc.. not sure the change but we will visit..

What about you and your senior???

...my youngest of my 3 DS's will be a Senior too, this comng school year....in fact, I just returned from dropping him at the high school off to take his SAT's...

Ours was the same type of graduation. They are redoing the football field with turf so we were in a sweltering gym (and a video feed into the auditorium which is air conditioned). The girls had to wear dresses or skirts & no flip flops (Cute flat sandals were ok) and the boys had dress pants, shirt & tie with dress shoes. It was 92 degree and crazy. There were over 600 kids graduating, but they kept it down to 1 1/2 hours!!!

We didn't do many pictures at school since it was a ZOO. All the kids only got a blank book when they crossed the stage and had to go get their diploma & records in the field house. No family allowed in there & it took forever to find her again.

I can't believe she's done and we have college orientation in a week and a half!! Wow -- this summer is going fast already.

Congrats to the graduates!!:thumbsup2

Our HS is requiring dress up stuff too.. At my older sons hs graduation.. one boy must have tried flip flops 'cause all of a sudden i see Dad running to the security guard.. he took off his shoes and gave them to the guard for his son to wear, then went back to his seat in stocking feet.. too funny..

well Friday nite was Prom.. he looked so good in his tux and her dress was beautiful.. sigh.. then i havent seen him or the car since..did find the tux and returned it..LOL.. today is graduation.. then off to parties for him..

We're not allowed AT ALL to stand up and take pictures. There will be an official photographer instead. I wouldn't be surprised if the audience isn't searched coming in to the Field House and into the auditorium...there's a whole list of prohibited items NO silly string NO beachballs, NO this, NO that, maybe there should be a prohibition on cameras. There's a rehearsal sometime Wednesday afternoon and sometime Thursday... Sheesh, we had been planning on taking any relatives out to lunch on Wednesday after Convocation, but not sure about the schedule.

It's funny, I've gotten numerous emails about the Baccalaureate (a non-denominational church service sponsored by the PTSA at a local church) next Sunday, but NOTHING about the Convocation, which is the school's Senior Awards ceremony. On school property. During the school day. grump grump grump.

DD does have a college overnight/class registration later this month, June 27-28. She's gotten her roommate assignment, but hasn't gotten in touch with them...I think the fact that college is so close is kind of overwhelming. She's excited that she got a suite-style room even though she's been put into a triple. (What's nice is that she'll get a 20% discount on her room&board because it's a triple, even if one of the girls gets a different room when classes start.)

And I am praying that DD & these girls will be real friends with no mean-girl stuff.

My dd also got her room assignment and is in a triple room with 2 other girls. She contacted them both on facebook and it turns out that the 2 girls are best friends with each other....which should be interesting....dd thinks it is terrible and honestly so do I but I keep telling her it could be a good thing, just wait and see, etc... I also hope she finds some good friends at school! Our orientation is June 23-24.

i had a water bottle taken away before i entered the auditoriun..many others did too..

Congrats to all who have graduated so far, are there any left who have not graduated yet? It's so hard for me to believe DS has graduated and now we are on to the anticipation of the next event, which will be moving to college. He will move in August 18th, but we won't find out who his roomate is until July. I hope everyone is having a Great summer so far. :goodvibes

DD just graduated yesterday. Next step is orientation/registration which is in two weeks. Time is going by too quickly, but I know she is ready for this next chapter.

I haven't heard anything about NO WATER :faint: but if they expect me to happily :dance3: sit for 2-3 hours in a sweltering Fieldhouse (because, really, since WHEN are they *ever* cool and air-conditioned?) with NO WATER?

Yeah, I might sit there but I sure as heck won't be happy about it. Sheesh, tomorrow the actual temp is supposed to be 101. I'm sure with the humidity that the heat index will be probably be up above 110, gosh only knows what the weather will be like next week.

I still remember with a ((shudder)) the summer a few years back we had either Code Purple or Code Black Air Quality Index and I had to be outside staffing a Girl Scout camp...
