High Protein (for Children)

Well actually, I am paying for everyone.

The parents aren't coming.

I think some pps are right that your best bet is to let him know that he needs to order off the adult menu. I think every restaurant has either pasta or pizza as one of the kids choices.
Honestly, it sounds way too stressful to me to worry about for the entire week. I think it would ruin my kids and my vaation to always be concerned with it. I'd try to hit places that I know had high protein things I know he'd really like and then enjoy the vacation.

Quite, honestly you will never find a restaurant without some type of pasta dish. When designing menus, they always select a beef, fish, poultry, and starch dish to accomodate all of the different tastes and health restrictions. I personally feel that you can encourage, but shouldn't avoid restaurants because of this issue. If it truly IS something to be concerned about, the doctor would prescribe supplements, not tell a family how to dine while on vacation.

I know this doesnt help with menu choices but it may help with protein intake. I currently use a vanilla flavor whey protein powder that turns regular oj ( or in my case sugar free orangeade) into a creamsicle tasting drink. It is sold at walmart and all health stores. Maybe if you teased him with the idea of having a creamsicle shake for breakfast and mid afternoon snack, you wouldnt need to worry so much about the meal choices. BTW the caloric value for 2 servings of the protein powder is 270 and the protein intake is almost 60 grams

You know this may not even be an issue. You state that he is a serious gymnast/dancer. Has anyone had a conversation with him about the imprtance of good protein to build nice lean muscles that he needs for his activities... Since he is 10, I'm sure this can be a conversation that he understands and since he does probably want to be the best he can- he will probably pick what is best for him anyway. Of couse, allow for some treats- it is Disney afterall.

Yes, 'Ohana has a ton of protein. We ate there twice during our last trip.
And, as far as your CS at Epcot being the American Adventure, we ate there a few weeks ago and they too have the nuggets.

Check out the kids menu for The Plaza Rest in the MK. Our DD loves the chicken on a stick.

That's for "For Mickey's little friends ages 9 and under" and wouldn't have enough protein for someone in DN10's situation anyway. However, the sandwiches all look like good choices, and no pasta or pizza on the menu. :thumbsup2

I wonder how the hamburger is there... Mmmmm.

One of our sons orders the cheeseburger every time we have lunch at the Plaza and I've had it in the past. It's excellent....not at all like the QS burgers.

Our DD is 11 and orders from the kids menu at The Plaza and other Disney Rest. They have no problem with it. I don't know how much he eats but it's plenty for DD. I can't comment on the other kids selections but the adult sandwiches and burgers are great. They also have great milkshakes!!! YUMMMM!!!

Given that the concern is getting enough protein, I suspect adult portions are in order no matter what. As it is, too many of the child menus have pasta and nuggets, which are counter-indicated, so I'm going to want to comply with the menu restrictions, whether they're willing to bend the rules for us or not.
