High Heels--am I crazy?

to the OP: No, you are NOT crazy.

When you ask for opinions on this board, you get them. You also get the "stand on the soap box" decrees of what you SHALL do and how you SHALL fo it.

Im a regular mom of two and my family goes to Disney almost every year in June. And yes, I confess, I am one of those evil heel wearers!!

Heels are fine in Disney if you are smart about it. While 5 inch stilettos will not work, there are many heels that are fine. Consider any of the heels by Cole Hahn which incorporate the Nike Air technology. I have worn 3 or 4 inch high quality all leather pumps at all the parks and never had a problem. (we do take breaks in the middle of the day--so that may be the key, not staying in them over 4 to 5 hours)

I have also worn high heel wedges that are more casual but very sophisticated.

Heres the bottom line. You know if you can handle heels. Dont let your fashion be dictated by frumpy women who think birkenstocks or crocs look "good". They are the ones who need their heads examined, not you.

Wow ,just Wow....I am speechless

:scared1: I would hate to see your poor feet, after 8 plus hours of walking, 4-5 days straight! Stick with tennis shoes!:goodvibes

Since we are going in November I don't really know what the weather will be like but I will probably have to wear jeans and I can't stand wearing sneakers with jeans--I always wear high heeled boots (like stilettos) or just high heels...am I crazy to walk around in a park like that--I normally wear my boots/heels for hours on end.

^^^ As a person who prefers not to wear sneakers at the parks, I can understand your position. We travelled in the summer so I was able to wear the newest wedge heeled Crocs. Got tons of compliments on them and they felt sooooo good on my feet. Here's what they look like: http://www.crocs.com/crocs-cyprus/10122,default,pd.html?cgid=women-footwear-heelsWedges and http://www.crocs.com/crocs-Hanalei/10394,default,pd.html?cgid=women-footwear-heelsWedges

I might have to get a pair of those pretty green wedges

Okay, so the consensus is : Heels=crazy.
But,
what if I toured the parks all day in my flip flops. I've gone back to the resort and changed into a nice dress for dinner. Is it still crazy to wear heels in say, Epcot from 5 or 6 until after Illuminations? I, of course, don't think so, or I wouldn't do it. But, am I going to get the stares for being a little bit dressed up with some wedges?
I know Disney is casual, but I'm a person who tends to be overdressed. So, even if we're just eating at Coral Reef or Le Cellier, I'll be a little bit dressed up.
Opinions?

Sounds like a good plan. There may be cobblestones in UK, so I'd pay special attention there. You'll have a better idea of what your feet can take after the first day. Good luck and have fun!

We wear pedometers for our trips and average between 40 and 50 miles per trip. It is sooo not necessary to look stylish at Disney. If you do not want to wear jeans and tennis shoes how about some nice stylish dry fit work-out or yoga pants and tennis shoes? I cannot imagine wearing stilletos to the parks, can your back take it? I have gotten to the point that I no longer care about my hair either, I wash it in the morning and then put it under a baseball cap!! I will end up with Disney hair at the end of the day anyway so why bother!!

I have, and will continue to, wear heels in the parks. I wear heels everyday for my job and they are just more comfortable to me than flipflops or sandals. Don't get me wrong, I am not wearing crazy high heels, but I will slip in a wedge or stacked shoe every once in a while. I am also not wearing them all week. I will alternate between other sandals and flip flops. However, I will say that because my daily life has me in heels 12 hours a day, on the days I am not in heels, I pay for it in my back. My back literally hurts the entire next day after not wearing heels. Go with whatever makes you comfortable.

Sorry it took me so long to reply...I was booking an appointment with the local head examiner! Luckily she was running a "Frumpy Woman Special"! ;)

I think your thoughts sum this debate up perfectly. Those who care about how something looks will sacrifice comfort while those who care more about how something feels will sacrifice looks. Personally, I've always been one to err on the side of comfort. As long as I feel good with what I am wearing I couldn't care less how it looks to others. Are my fellow park-goers going to shun me if I'm not fashionable? If so, then I'll just have to live with that, but I'm guessing that they'll never even notice me.

Oops...gotta run...the analyst is waiting! ;)

Best post ever! :rotfl:

I'm a heel gal too, but not in Disney. I have on occasion worn some cute wedges but that's only if I'm planning to stick to just the British/Canadian/French area of WS to see the bands and sip champagne.

If I'm going out to dinner, I wear flip flops that match my dress and carry my shoes in a bag until I get there.

I would not be caught dead with jeans and sneaks...just ew. Suggestion from another shoe lover...wear skinny jeans and get yourself some of the cute flat boots and tuck the jeans in. Comfort plus you'll look super cute.

Your post was fine until the last two sentences when you got up on your soapbox. There's nothing like the pot calling the kettle black to ruin a perfectly good point.

Hi Jennifer!! :)

I was wondering if you'd mind posting a photo of you wearing these Cole Haan heels at Disney?

Thanks!

I was thinking about this post and I am not sure if anyone touched upon safety.....

such as having to move quickly to get away from danger....

Living outside of NYC, and working for a Police Dept, I tend to think about this.......just my two cents........

Wow, I couldn't agree more! People in Crocs and Birks look comfortable, people in heels at a theme park look vain and insane. We went to Mexico on our honeymoon and saw women in heels climbing up those Mayan pyramids, talk about dumb, not to mention dangerous!

Thanks for proving my point, Lacee, about the double standard on this thread. People can freely post that those who wear heels are vain, crazy, dangerous, irresponsible etc. But dont you dare say that people who wear the ugliest shoes known to humankind (birks or crocs) are frumpy!

Wearing cute flats, clogs are fine. You can be flat on the ground, safe, and comfortable in normal shoes without exposing the rest of us to your nasty footwear choices.

Ill say it again, and I dont care. Birkenstock and CROC wearers are FRUMPY!!!!!!

Well heeled and proud in Texas!!!,

Jennifer

You are so welcome. I don't wear crocs or birks by the way, just saying heels do not look comfy at all, but hey, if you want mangled feet go for it!
I do have to add, we have never been a "take a break in the middle of the day" group, as you said, that makes a difference. We go all day!
Also, like others have said, safety before style!

Just wondering, how many times have YOU seen anybody walking a 10 to 13 mile marathon in heels? No one would ever do that.
I have seen old feet that have been forced into pointy shoes for years and years, yuk, no thanks! Reminds me of foot binding, but then men thought that was beautiful at one time too!

Ooh...Frumpy. Perhaps. But at least I won't be crippled at the end of the day. Chew on that.

I KNOW my crocs are ugly. But 8 miles at Disney ain't about a fashion show.

If you can handle all day in the parks in your heels, go for it. You are likely in the minority, but whatever floats your boat. My sister hates flats. She loves her heels. Wears them all day pounding pavement as a drug rep. Nothing I love more than hearing her complain at the end of a long day at Disney about how much her well-heeled feet hurt.

I bet you look smashing in your heels though! :thumbsup2

I think of varicose and spider veins when I think of people wearing heels and walking several miles in them. Just another point to consider.

There are things I wear at Disney that I would never be caught dead wearing in the "real world." I confess I wear a fanny pack!!! Comfort in the parks is the most important thing for me. My feet always get blisters, and I feel like someone beat me up at the end of a long day. I can't imagine wearing heels and being able to survive the week. Someone would need to get me an ECV!

Well heeled and proud in Texas!!!,

Im from Beaumont..just south of you! I too am " Well heeled and proud in Texas" I too wear more reasonable shoes at Disney too though. I LOVE heels..I feel VERY sexy and tall. However I could not imagine Disney with them on...not that you said you would either though. I just bought some REALY cute ballet flats...however even those after 4 or 5 days just dont do it for me. I think this year I wanna try my uggs, I also am thinking about maybe gel inserts in my flats...not sure though!

I have noticed that people DO critisize woman for wearing heels to Disney...therefore you have the right to YOUR opp. too...but coming from a woman who LOVES shoes and heels...I too kinda think...wow they must be INSANE...when I see people in "high" heels as mentioned in OP. I dont think people care when they see people in little wedges...but come on...from one heel wearer to the next...as mentioned in OP....if you saw a woman in "stilettos " at WDW...after you looked and said..."oh those are cute shoes"...you would HAVE to think...DANG that must HURT!!!! Being that she did not say wedges and what nots...she said stilettos Now that IS !!!
