High Heels--am I crazy?

I wouldn't say it's crazy to wear high heels but I wouldn't say it's not crazy either.;) I am not a fan of tennis shoes unless I am working out. But going to Disney is different. I do wear tennis shoes at Disney occassionally. I also have a couple of pairs of Privo's. They kinda look like tennis shoes but have more of a cute approach. They are really comfortable and come in several different colors. I have a bronze pair and a black pair that I wear all winter long even at home! I bought both pairs at a Clark's store.

I don't ever wear real athletic shoes unless I'm participating in a sport or running. So, I get that. But, I do wear cute little sneakers (Keens, Converse, etc.) with jeans at Disney. Last year, my little sneaks got soaked and I wore a low-heeled wedge boot for a day and was fine. But it was not a stiletto or high heel by ANY stretch of the imagination.

Another option might be Uggs. I have always thought they were ugly, but now own some cardys and can wear them all day long without any issues. And they are super cute with jeans. :)

The only time I ever wore heels inside a Disney park was October 25th 2008. They were on my feet for a total of 20 minutes LOL. Here is the story :lmao:

My parents and I were getting ready for the Party for the Senses. I had picked out a very cute outfit, black capris and a silky purple tank top. I was trying to decide between wearing black suede flip flops that I know are SO comfy or black leather heeled sandals. Well DMom chimes in that the heels will look nicer so I caved and wore them.

We took a taxi from CSR to the BC. Here is where the walk of He-double hockey sticks begins. We walked through the BC to the end by the quiet pool and wandered out the path closest to the International Gateway. Did I mention it was about 100 degrees out? And we were getting to the International Showplace (where PFTS is hosted) very early to get our spot for the "Running of the Bulls"? By the time we arrived at the Gateway my feet were sore, but bearable, a bit of rubbing at the heels and pinching at the toes.

We then wandered from the Gateway to the Showplace, a relatively short walk, but by the time we arrived at the PFTS podium my feet were killing me. We staked out our spot right beside the doors (1 hour early i might add) and i felt something dripping from my leg. Yup...it was blood :scared1: From the backs of both my heels were trails of blood from the places the skin had been torn off. Now these were not new shoes, I had walked all around downtown Toronto in them with no issue. It was the rough terrain (that textured pavement is a witch) and the intense heat and humidity!

So, DMom, feeling horribly guilty that she had talked me into wearing the heels went off to find me better footwear. The only thing she could find at the International Gateway? Black & Red sparkly High School Musical 3 flip flops :rotfl: I was not amused, but it turns out they were incredibly comfortable and you couldn't tell that they were HSM once they were on my feet. Though my black suede ones, sitting back in the room at CSR, would have been the best option :sad2:

Lesson: Even if you are used to heels, the conditions at Disney parks make them unbearable! Even in the late fall!

as promised..here is my bad shoes picture I took while at WDW the start of Oct 09 let me preface this by saying..I live out in the country and we simply are not up to current fashion, so if this is fashionable, I apologize now for calling them bad shoes

I actually think those shoes are adorable! I do question the sock choice...and the wearing of those shoes with shorts...but the shoes are cute! I'd definitely pair those with a pair of jeans and a coordinating top.

As for heels...like everyone else I think they are a bad idea.

I'm not much of a sneaker wearer, nor will I intentionally wear ugly shoes :lmao: I have 8-10 different styles of Naot sandals (www.leathersandals.com), some of which have a slight wedge. They're pricey but extremely supportive & well worth it IMO. Aside from my Tevas if it rains, they're all I wear any more (although I do have a couple of pair of boots with heels and a couple of pair of other dress shoes, all rarely worn) The Naots have a cork and latex footbed and require very little break-in. I bought my first pair in Fort Myers three years ago and never took them off unless and until it was cold enough that I needed closed toes. A couple of the styles I have run a little wider and are perfect with cute socks (http://www.northstyle.com/search.asp?c=03&SKW=access+misc&GEN1=Scarfs+Socks+and+More&scat=Y) & jeans.

to the OP: No, you are NOT crazy.

When you ask for opinions on this board, you get them. You also get the "stand on the soap box" decrees of what you SHALL do and how you SHALL fo it.

Im a regular mom of two and my family goes to Disney almost every year in June. And yes, I confess, I am one of those evil heel wearers!!

Heels are fine in Disney if you are smart about it. While 5 inch stilettos will not work, there are many heels that are fine. Consider any of the heels by Cole Hahn which incorporate the Nike Air technology. I have worn 3 or 4 inch high quality all leather pumps at all the parks and never had a problem. (we do take breaks in the middle of the day--so that may be the key, not staying in them over 4 to 5 hours)

I have also worn high heel wedges that are more casual but very sophisticated.

Heres the bottom line. You know if you can handle heels. Dont let your fashion be dictated by frumpy women who think birkenstocks or crocs look "good". They are the ones who need their heads examined, not you.

Since we are going in November I don't really know what the weather will be like but I will probably have to wear jeans and I can't stand wearing sneakers with jeans--I always wear high heeled boots (like stilettos) or just high heels...am I crazy to walk around in a park like that--I normally wear my boots/heels for hours on end.

I totally agree about tennis shoes with jeans. Hate them, think they look horrible. But, I would never wear heels to WDW. I bought a cute pair of leather Cole Hahn/Nike Air flats for our trip in Feb. They have a little more support then regular flats and a cushy bottom. They're cute and they're not tennis shoes! Yay!

When I was younger, I probably could have worn heels. At this point, I'd be afraid to fall out of them :). Just be aware that the pavement is uneven in some places.

Why can't you just give your opinion without slamming others?

Why are women who are more concerned with the health and comfort of their feet automatically "frumpy" and WHY would they need their head examined for being sensible instead of fashionable? :confused3

Because her feet hurt, silly!! :rotfl:

Sorry Vicky, my post really wasnt intended toward you, as I dont know you.

After 107 other post slamming heel wearers as crazies or oddities, I thought ONE post with an opposite viewpoint (and admittedly making a dig at birkenstocks gals) would be ok?

Sorry to threaten the status quo and super majority with a different outlook :scared1:

I'm not too crazy about the jeans + running shoes look but I have bad feet and have no choice wearing running shoes with my custom made soles. Thats why I invested in comfy cargo pants and bought a few pairs in different colors and I find that they look okay with running shoes. Another advantage is that they can turn into capris for hotter days. When I was in WDW in Dec 2007 it was almost 85 degrees every day so I was glad that I could wear them as capris during daytime!:thumbsup2

Just wondering if it ever occurred to you that maybe some of those "frumpy" women HAVE to wear crocs, birkenstocks, tennis shoes, etc because of a disability you may not be able to see? You might not think they look "good" and that they need their heads examined, but maybe, given the choices, that is as GOOD as it gets for them. Perhaps they would love to have the choices of footwear that you do, but don't and would appreciate not being labeled as "frumpy".

ETA: the PP is exactly what I was talking about... I also have a "hidden disability" that REQUIRES me to wear comfortable, perhaps not fashionable, shoes

Um...no one is saying high heel wearers are crazy oddities. Most are simply stating that wearing heels at an amusement park is a strange choice. I wear heels when the occassion calls for it, but just as I'm not about to head to the gym and jump on a treadmill in my heels, I wouldn't wear them at Disney either. But hey, if wearing sneakers to work out makes me frumpy instead of just, I dunno, sensible, that's fine by me! :thumbsup2

You can disagree without being snipey.

And I think most of the posts weren't "slamming heel wearers". I for one believe heels have their place and I don't begrudge anyone who wants to wear them. The OP asked if it would be crazy to wear heels TO DISNEY WORLD. Apparently, many people think it's ill-advised, primarily for comfort reasons. I'm frankly worried that attempting to wear heels at WDW could start off a vacation on the wrong foot (pun intended), and set someone up for discomfort for the remainder of the trip.

From reading this thread, it appears that some people are able to wear heels to WDW with no ill effects. (No, you're actually not the only one espousing that opinion.) That's great if you want to do it. I personally think doing anything to potentially compromise your feet on a Disney vacation is a risky endeavor. If your feet start hurting, your touring is impacted. That's all. Is it possible to wear heels to Disney with no ill-effects? I guess it is.

OP asked for opinions. Yours is as valid as anyone else's. I'm just not sure why chose to inject the insult.

I say go for it! I'd pack a pair of flats in my bag just in case the heels gave you blisters. Do what you're comfortable with!

Well the OP asked "am I crazy" so it's not surprising that people answered with "yes, you are crazy"! :rotfl: To me that's not quite the same as calling an entire group of people "frumpy" because we prefer to wear, sensible shoes, as they are called.

If you decide to you may be one of those people that get their picture taken (just the shoes and little of the leg) and then it will get posted on the DIS in their trip report and then people will laugh at your shoes and think how can people be crazy enough to wear shoes like that at Disney:rotfl: Sorry I am ones of those that laugh at people with bad shoes ;) This is meant in the nicest way!:littleangel:
