High Heels--am I crazy?

Sorry Vicky, my post really wasnt intended toward you, as I dont know you.

After 107 other post slamming heel wearers as crazies or oddities, I thought ONE post with an opposite viewpoint (and admittedly making a dig at birkenstocks gals) would be ok?

Sorry to threaten the status quo and super majority with a different outlook :scared1:

It's not the "outlook", it's the attitude. She asked if she was crazy to wear heels at WDW, which alot of people answered yes - all good natured . Your attitude was out of line. The only one doing the slamming was you.

Dont let your fashion be dictated by frumpy women who think birkenstocks or crocs look "good".

yeah, let your fashion be dictated by men like Ralph Lauren who fired a 5'10" 120 lb model for being too fat. LOL. Not that Ralph Lauren would ever be caught dead wearing any of the weird things he puts on his models.

Sorry, but fashion just makes me go crazy. Carry on.

If you think they'll be comfy, it is up to you. They are your feet. As the majority of the replies here reflect, many people will find your shoes an odd choice, but again, if you are comfy, who cares? I would not find them comfy. I wear gym shoes or Merrel sandals. I have worn Birkenstocks and schlep around town and school in my Croc Mammoths- because they are comfy-not because I live my life on the fashion runway (not directed at you, OP). When I want to be fashionable, I will wear fashionable shoes. GL and have a great trip!

Boncho,

So my opinion that birkenstocks or crocs are frumpy is considered "slamming" or "attitude", and everyone else's opinions are "good natured"?

Ok, thanks Boncho. :rolleyes1

I say wear what you are comfortable in. If that means, mini skirts with crocs or 6 inch stilettos with sweatpants...GO FOR IT!! Me...I will stick with jeans and sneakers.

OH MY! Stilettos???? I wear heels (of some sort) at home, but I can't even BEGIN to imagine wearing them at WDW!!! You will be miserable!!!

In fact, I can't think of anything worse than sore, blistered, pounding feet while touring the parks!!! Get a good pair of shoes. They don't have to be ugly (I LOVE shoes;)). I have a great pair of Born mules with a wedge. They look very cute with jeans and I wore them about 15 hours a day at WDW last year.

To the other posters, shoes are more my "thing" but what the heck is wrong with a fanny pack???? I think it's crazy seeing women carry purses and I don't need a full backpack! LOL I didn't know it was a fashion faux pas!!! I've worn one at the parks since 1998!!! I had no idea I would be snickered at for that!:scared1:
Please share your opinions!!! I don't want to look like a dork!

Don't worry about the fanny pack, lol. I see them every time I go, on men, women and children. Whatever works for you! My dh wore one on our first family trip and couldn't find it for our last one, making me carry all of his belongings in my baggallini. Personally, I prefer a cross body bag, but if your fanny pack works for you, go for it! I, for one, don't thinking it looks "silly".

As far as the OP.....if you can do it, just be smart about it. Like a lot of pp's have stated...there's a lot of uneven pavement. You don't want to twist an ankle and put an end to your trip prematurely. My bff can wear heels for hours on end...in fact, she has worn them so often and for so long that she has had issues wearing flats because of her tendons shortening. She's more comfy in heels. Me? HA! I'm lucky I can wear them for a few hours without wanting to whip them off of the nearest bridge! I wear my crocs...they are the only things that don't kill my feet touring the parks. But...I wear the mary jane ones or the cleo sandals. That's just me. I'm not big on sneakers or gym shoes with jeans either...but there are some nice options like a lot of helpful pp's have said. Have a blast and be safe! And if you decide to wear them, let us know how you fared. :wizard: Have a magical trip!

Thank you for making me chuckle. I have a very small purse that I wear cross body at the parks. I'll tell you what, if you don't laugh at my purse, I won't laugh at your fanny pack. There are so many people wearing so many different things to the parks, I don't think anyone should feel self conscience about anything they want to wear. I figure no matter what a person wears, there is going to be someone that thinks they look like a dork :lmao: and someone else that thinks they look just lovely.:thumbsup2

Sorry it took me so long to reply...I was booking an appointment with the local head examiner! Luckily she was running a "Frumpy Woman Special"! ;)

I think your thoughts sum this debate up perfectly. Those who care about how something looks will sacrifice comfort while those who care more about how something feels will sacrifice looks. Personally, I've always been one to err on the side of comfort. As long as I feel good with what I am wearing I couldn't care less how it looks to others. Are my fellow park-goers going to shun me if I'm not fashionable? If so, then I'll just have to live with that, but I'm guessing that they'll never even notice me.

Oops...gotta run...the analyst is waiting! ;)

Amen!

jenniferhouston2, as one who called the original poster crazy, it was a good natured response to the OP's question of "Am I crazy?" Your post was just mean and name calling. There have been plenty of people here who say go for it and did it nicely!

to the OP: No, you are NOT crazy.

When you ask for opinions on this board, you get them. You also get the "stand on the soap box" decrees of what you SHALL do and how you SHALL fo it.

Im a regular mom of two and my family goes to Disney almost every year in June. And yes, I confess, I am one of those evil heel wearers!!

Heels are fine in Disney if you are smart about it. While 5 inch stilettos will not work, there are many heels that are fine. Consider any of the heels by Cole Hahn which incorporate the Nike Air technology. I have worn 3 or 4 inch high quality all leather pumps at all the parks and never had a problem. (we do take breaks in the middle of the day--so that may be the key, not staying in them over 4 to 5 hours)

I have also worn high heel wedges that are more casual but very sophisticated.

Heres the bottom line. You know if you can handle heels. Dont let your fashion be dictated by frumpy women who think birkenstocks or crocs look "good". They are the ones who need their heads examined, not you.
so all people who wear crocs and birkenstocks are frumpy?

YOUR COMMENT WAS JUST PLAIN RUDE!

Okay, so the consensus is : Heels=crazy.
But,
what if I toured the parks all day in my flip flops. I've gone back to the resort and changed into a nice dress for dinner. Is it still crazy to wear heels in say, Epcot from 5 or 6 until after Illuminations? I, of course, don't think so, or I wouldn't do it. But, am I going to get the stares for being a little bit dressed up with some wedges?
I know Disney is casual, but I'm a person who tends to be overdressed. So, even if we're just eating at Coral Reef or Le Cellier, I'll be a little bit dressed up.
Opinions?

OMG yes - Personally I'd take a pair of sneakers and a pair of flip flops. I like wearing flip flops with jeans :)

If you want to dress up alittle for dinner, go ahead. As long as you feel comfortable in what you are wearing, that is all that matters. If people look at you, maybe it is because you look really nice!:cloud9:

Nope...not at all. Did the same thing when my friend and I had adr's for Artist Point after a day in the parks. We both dressed nicely and I wore some wedge sandals. And ended up keeping them on when we went to dtd afterwards. Slightly uncomfy...but not TOO bad. It was only for a few hours and even though I wear these shoes to work for 4+ hours...I do more standing still there than at Disney. Plus...no uneven flooring! :) I was also wearing a dress...so if I got looks it was probably because people thought I wore a dress and wedge sandals to the parks all day! But...I never noticed. Just do what makes you happy and however you feel most comfy.

I was talking to an American friend of mine about her trip to Paris. She said that the mother of the family she stayed with wore stillettos everywhere - to the grocery store, in the Metro, to work - she didn't own shoes that didn't have at least a two or three inch heel . They went to Versaille one day, and my friend was in her Nike's getting exhausted with all the walking and tripping over the uneven cobblestones in the landscaping, and her host mother is clicking over the cobblestones in heels - unfatigued, graceful and comfortable.

I'd look at you and think you were nuts - but if you are comfortable does it really matter?

(I'd at least bring the flip flops though - and maybe tuck them into my purse if I tried the heels in the park thing).
