High DLR hotel rates...who do you book through?

I went to Disneyland's booking website and I was shocked to put in my tentative dates for late April for a 8 night stay at GCH (I tried other dates - plus/minus a week as well) and it came back with over $500 a night for a downtown disney or theme park view (no tickets). This is way more then we paid last mid-August for 8 nights. It also showed the Disneyland Hotel for $700 a night during that time. Is this wrong? Should I call (I usually book on their website), I'm really afraid to call and find out this is for real....that is way too much money per night for a normal room. I've never booked through any other source, any secrets to getting reasonable rates at GCH. I am crushed. I swear I searched the same dates a few months ago and it came up with $300 a night.
Thanks!

Try some of the travel sites like Priceline, Travelocity and Expedia. Oh, and Orbitz.

Go ahead and book the room - HOWEVER - keep checking back. I guarantee a better rate will come up before then. Simply cancel and book at the new rate at that point.

I do this all the time.

I always call Disney Travel directly. Ask about the price. Ask again. Ask if there is any BETTER price available. Mention AAA. Ask about codes. Just keep at it.

Once I got a So. Cal discount even though I live in Northern CA, just because I kept at it. She said, "Well, we have this So. Cal discount. You don't qualify for it, but since I've mentioned it..."

THEY won't mention the specials, so you have to practically dig it out of them. :thumbsup2

do you book a room only ressie? I have a package and it would be $100 to cancel and re-book....

My room only ressie allows cancellations up to 5 days ahead of arrival. You get a full refund of your deposit, which is one night's stay.

Anyone know if using a pin code is generally the best rate you're going to get on a room-only ressie?
