HIFS reservation question

I have been scouring the boards and decided to go ahead and call HIFS to see if they had rates for Jan. 2004.

They did have the rates and said it was $146.00 a night for what I was looking for. I told her what I was looking for as far as a room and view and she said that pool side/Disney theme would be fine and she noted it in the system. I then asked about the Entertainment Book rate and she said in fact they did have it then and it would be $76.00. She read back all the notes she had taken and e-mailed me a confirmation.

I got the confirmation and in the disclaimers at the bottom it says $20.00 extra will be charged for a pool view. This was never mentioned during the phone call at all. I called back and got someone else who said they don't know why she didn't mention it but that is how it works.

My question is for those who have stayed at HIFS does it really matter what view you have? Is there way to upgrade to the pool side without the $20.00 a night fee?

I am sorry I truly don't mean to sound petty I know I got a great price I was just disappointed that nothing was said about the additional charge.

Here I am posting to myself like a dork but I just spoke to hubby and he said he could care less if we were looking at a cement wall for that price so all is fine :D

BTW how do I get one of the cute count down to Disney thingys? You can see how technical I am LOL!

I have been wading through these boards for days now and I think all the info. is so awesome!

Pool side rooms are $20 more a night if you want it guaranteed. However, if you are a priority club member, and one is available at check in, ask for an upgrade and you may be able to get one.

You can get a countdown on the Technical Board. They are really easy to set up, and someone over there can help you out :)

Welcome to The DIS!

Hi Teresa,

Thanks for the info. I joined the Priority Club this afternoon so if they can upgrade that would be great. I am just doing a happy dance that I got what looks to be an awesome hotel for such a spectacular rate.

Notice I also got my little countdown going :)

Thanks again
Sue

Congrats on getting the countdown! They are so much fun to watch as the days go by :).

The hotel is awesome and you got an great rate!

Have a good trip!

The pool view was not that important to us, we have stayed on both sides on past trips. A thought regarding the rate. On our last trip (3/03) I had booked at 115 rate and thought that was GREAT. I picked up a tip from this site and called about any entertainment book rates... They had a 99.50 rate for the same room and changed our reservation. Over 10 days we saved 150.00 (minus the 35.00 for the entertainment book /card that i bought after making the reservation at the lower rate. You may want to call periodically between now and your trip. Have Fun.

We have stayed in a pool view room twice. The first time we were on the first floor opposite the free form pool. We asked to be moved because it was too noisy with all of the kids yelling until late in the evening. The second time we were on an upper floor so the noise wasn't so bad.

We prefer the non-pool view. Sure it faces the parking lot, but you don't have a balcony to sit on and you can't really even look out the window, so the view doesn't really matter. The only way you can enjoy the view is to stand on the walkway outside your room.

All of the rooms are a very short walk to the pool, even the non-pool view rooms. Both times we were placed in the pool view room we did not ask for it and did not pay the extra $20. Given the setup without a balcony to sit on, I personally would not pay extra for the pool view. Hope this helps.

Hi, We just stayed there in March 03. Had a pool view and didn't pay extra as it was available. So ask when you get there. If it available they are very nice and will give it to you. It doesn't matter though. Unless you sit with your curtains pulled and look at the pool, but people walk by and look in the windows also. If you had a balcony as someone else stated the would be a different exception, but there isn't any and it really doesn't matter.

Hi, we stayed at the HIFS recently, and the view made absolutely no difference! I know it is a personal thing, but unless you want everyone able to see into your room as well you won't really benefit much from the view. However, there are sections of the hotel that are closer to the pool and it may be worth it to inquire if being close is important to you. We had a bit of a walk to get there and next time I think I would ask to be in closer section. The pool is a great one though! My kids loved it- too bad we had cooler weather when we were there. Oh well- next time. If you are interested I have a coupon for the free medium 1 topping pizza, the breadsticks and 2 litre drink at pizza hut (on site at the hotel)- if you are interseted e-mail me at mleitman@sympatico.ca and I will send one out in the mail.

We stayed in March '03 without a pool view and had no complaints about our view. Certainly not worth an extra $20.

I personally would not want a first floor pool view, because of all the traffic and noise.
