HIFS and Cleanliness

I am kind of worried about staying at HIFS. I read one post that said the playground smelled of urine and that the pools were very crowded with small children.

I have a 4 and 6 year old myself, but my husband and I are fairly nuerotic and won't let them play in the mcdonalds play areas, and we are spoiled because my parents have a very nice pool in their backyard.

I guess I am just worried that it might be too busy, stinky and crowded. Has anyone had this experience?

I want to find a place my kids can enjoy, and HIFS sounds like fun with the mini golf and all.

Are there other kid friendly resorts??

We are going to be at Port orleans the rest of our stay, but we need a place to stay the few days prior.

I saw the same thread and got worried too. One of our fellow DISers replied back to me that she has been several times (and the thread is old, 12/2001) and that she was there at the same time and didn't have any of the problems mentioned. The only thing that I really have heard that is consistantly negative is the food quality at the Club Car. We will be at HIFS in Sept. for a 4 day weekend at US/IOA....we have 77 days left, will let you know how it was if you want...

I have a feeling that the pool is going to have lots of small kids in in no matter what. That is just the price of going to Disney. The only way to avoid that would be to rent one of the homes with the private pools.

We have stayed at HIFS twice 3/02 & 3/03 and the pool was regularly cleaned while we were there. You and your kids are going to LOVE this pool.

As Carol A. said, no matter what hotel you stay at the pool will be filled with kids. This is Disney! Have no worries you will enjoy the hotel and so will your kids.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the replies.

I am not a snob, just a germaphobe. Is that a word??

Ack, I still can't decide!

I know I'm going to get bashed but I wouldn't stay there again.
We checked in and decided to just stay one night and then that night looked for another hotel and ended up at the Doubletree
in downtown disney. We loved this hotel.
The HIFS was a motel in my opinion. I'm pretty neurotic too when it comes to my kids. I didn't feel clean when I was in the room.
They do have separated rooms but EXTREMELY cramped.
Not clean and I feel misrepresented. However, I did enjoy their food while we were there.

This has been such a dilemma for me too! I have been getting the "feeling" from reading all the posts both good and bad that HIFS is not as nice as it appears on the web site. I can't say why exactly I feel that way, I guess its just the way I've read the reports. It is a Holiday Inn, not to sound snobby, but its not the Ritz! (Not that the Ritz can't have cleanliness issues as well!)

My parents did happen to visit HIFS over Feb vacation at my request just to "check it out". The one thing they mentioned was that it was really crazy with tons of kids running around. Now they were staying at the Marriot across the street (MOWC) and they were comparing the atmosphere to that. They did say it looked nice, not run down, but if you are the type that do not like McD's playgrounds this may not be the place for you.

I plan to take a look at this place myself when we are at WDW this summer to see for myself.
Good luck!
