Anyone who hangs out on this section doing the races in January?

Erica and I are walkers and plan on about a 15 mpm average pace, we will have several walkers with us and would welcome anyone else that would like to tag along. We are doing the 5K and the marathon.

I will be there Sir Panda! I am looking forward to meeting you and all of the others in just a few weeks. I just hope I can manage a good finish.

I will see you at the Meet and Greet!

The meet and greet for WISH is at the PoP Century food court at 4:30 on the friday before the marathon weekend.

It's an informal gathering and a chance to meet some of the folks you talk to on the boards. The DisneyRunning Group will be meeting there also at the same time since a lot of athletes are members of both groups.

You are one speedy Panda as I didn't even have a chance to respond to the question.

Time is ticking down and it is getting ever so close. Am I ready for this? I hope so.

Yep Pandas is speedy.

Sure is getting close. We just got back from Gatlinburg Tenn in the Smokey Mountains. We go there every December to get some walks on the mountain roads. Builds stamina for the marathon.

I was there about 6 weeks ago. I wasn't able to really work on speed or endurance while there though. We did do a couple of trails, even went up to Clingman's Dome, but my wife doesn't have the cardiovascular conditioning that I have so she was having to stop a lot and it kept getting me out of my cadence and pace. I tried to do a brisk walk yesterday and had to stop after 1.5 miles. For some reason, the ball of my left foot was hurting a lot. I decided to stop my training, come home and put it in the foot massager and go back out to the track in a day or two. I don't want to make it where I can't finish the races while I am there. (That would be a huge letdown. I don't think I would be able to come back home and face the group of that happened.:scared1: )

We go the second week of December because that's our wedding anniversary and it's the off season so no crowds and the hotels are cheap. We stayed at the Bear Skin Lodge, with in room fireplace, hot tub in room and balcony overlooking the river for $70 a night.

Thank you for the information. I will make sure to get over there and introduce myself.

If you can, go to the Events portion at the top of the page, there is a thread that will allow Racey Tracy to make you a name badge that will have your screen name on it and your real name.

Hope to see you there!

I don't want to be a pain but I can't seem to find the thread, any additional assistance would be appreciated.

That's the thread. (I hope it works. If not, it is at the bottom of the 2nd page on the events thread.)

I am actually training for the 5k and the Half. I think I found out that the pain was caused by my work shoes. Today, my feet have been fine but I am giving it one more day and tomorrow (weather permitting) I will be back out hitting the pavement in my slow, usual way.

That's cool! My DW wanted to do the 5k but it filled up before she was able to enter. As you can see from my signature I will be going for the 1/2. I did my first full in October, this will be my 2nd 1/2. What is your goal time for the 1/2?

My goal time is just under the 3 hour mark. I have done it a couple of times but doing both races back to back, I am not going to fret if I am a bit slower. Plus, I am going to be running with a couple of really close friends and I promised to finish with them. So I guess my main goal is not to get swept. I am going for the experience on this one. I know I can't win so I am not going to go out and try to kill myself running all out.

Do you know the cut off time is for the 1/2? How far do you run each week?

The cut-off time is 3:30 after the last person crosses the start line. They leave the mats there for a bit after, not too long though I'm not sure exactly how long. Qualifying time is a 16 min pace and is the 3:30 official race time for each person. Does this answer your question?
