Ok -- We're doing WDW in Dec, but I bought the $86 Universal ticket deal & they are burning a hole in my pocket!

I am considering October for Universal -- What is HHN like? I am sure my 2 younger kids can't go, but my 7th grader and DH may enjoy it.

The official website doesn't give any details -- Can anyone fill me in?

Is the price justified?

And I am confused -- the cost of 1 night any day is the same as the cost for all Sunday & Thursday nights?

HHN is the best Halloween event anywhere, there's usually around 7 haunted houses with different themes, several themed areas and shows like Bill and Ted's,which is a comedic spoof of things going on this year! Depending on what park HHN is at they sometimes have a Festival of the Dead Parade.Remember this is a very popular event,it gets really crowded, weekdays by 8pm lines for the houses get to like 45-90 minutes and weekends it really becomes a madhouse.I rarely ever go weekends,If I did I would suggest buying the Universal Express passes as I wouldn't want to spend the entire night waiting in line. When I go weekdays I stay inside the park in the area where they keep you until they're ready to go.By doing this I knock out 3-4 houses ASAP before the lines start getting crazy!

Here's a link to the event with info and if you go to the Behind the Screams area you can see short videos, pics and info on the previous horror Nights!!

Hi neighbor. We are right outside of Philly too. We've gone down to Universal, many, many times just for HHN.

If you love Halloween and all things gory, you will love the event. The parks have a completey different vibe to them at night, with the lights out, the fog, and scareactors jumping out at you.

Best bet, follow the above link and look at the Behind the Screams material.

A 7th grader (12 or 13) would probably enjoy the event. But it all depends on their disposition. If they enjoy gory slasher movies, then they will have a good time. But the even can get rowdy. The alcohol flows like a river, and with 15-50k people jammed in the park it can be interesting.

Yes, the Frequent Fear Pass, is a better deal. If you can visit at least 2 Off-Peak nights. Friday and Saturday are the PRIME nights and the crowds are huge.

Like Doom said...HHN is THE best Halloween event in the county and definately NOT for younger kids or the weak of heart. If you're looking for something cute, cuddly and kid friendly, head to MNSSHP. I'm just glad Universal takes care of the "big kids" for Halloween unlike Disney. :sad2:

The Frequent Fear pass is the best value but only if you're going to go on more than one off peak night. The only time I went on the weekend was in 2005 for the AP holders weekend.

Ok -- I am sold on HHN. Now just to scrap the $ together...

If we stayed on site at HRH do we get any "perks" for HHN? I know daytime we'd get the FOTL.

Can a first timer do HHN in one night? I will try to get the multi-night, but if it can't work with our schedule, can HHN really be appreciated in one night?

While other Dads go fishin with sons, this sounds like the "thing" for my DH & DS! :scared1:

I can pass -- and at least for a few years use the younger kids as an excuse...Umm, eventually they will catch on to Mom "playing" the matyr role and then :rotfl2: that I am a scardy cat :scared:

Thanks All!

Unfortunately there are no perks for staying on-site for HHN. But the HRH is the best location to stay at. A five minute walk back to your hotel room at midnight is so nice.

A first time can appreciate the event in one night, as long as you do Stay and Scream. Even on a non-peak night the crowds will be larger than the typical daytime October crowd (especially during Hell Week). But, it's never a bad idea to consider EP's for HHN, or even a VIP tour.

But the trick is to be inside the gate and ready to hit the houses that open first, before they let in the mob. On a peak night, you can not believe the wall of people coming through the gates.

If you do multiple nights, it makes touring much easier. Spliting the nights so you do a few houses and Scarezones one night, and then doing shows and your favorite houses the next. If you are there early, sometimes you can luck out and do most of the houses with little or no wait.

It's a great event, hope you have a great time!

Sorry to steal away this thread for a moment, but I have a question that pertains to HHN. Last year we did the stay and scream and I know we had to be in the park by a certain time which worked out great and saved us alot of time. Question is I can't remeber what time we were in the park by before they start not letting people in anymore. Was it 4:30 or 5:00?

Thanks

Make sure you are in the park at 4:30. They 'close' the park at 5. You don't want to be stuck outside the gates at that point.

Last year we "waited" :drinking1 at Finnegan's for Stay & Scream, it was a great time! We did the 3 houses back by BTTF and MIB within a half hour to 40 minutes after they released us from the Stay & Scream area!
