Has anyone going to HHI flown into Charleston airport? If so, how was it? And how long is the drive to the resort vs. from Savannah? We considered Atlanta, decided against it, and are now considering Charleston in our continued quest to get decent airfare.

About 1 1/2 hours +/- depending on traffic. It will take 30/40 minutes from Savanna so not a big difference.

Charleston is a super town to visit, but it is at least twice as far as Savanah.

It's at LEAST two hours from the Charleston airport to HH, since the airport is north of Charleston.

If you take I-95, you have to take "the long way" and go out of your way; if you take the back roads, it's more direct, but you're on two-lane roads much of the way and it can be slow going. I don't think we've ever made it between HH and downtown Charleston (in either direction) in much under two hours. From the airport it can't be any less.

Good luck. But if you do go to Charleston airport, try to stay a night or two and see the city! We were just there last weekend for our daughter's college graduation and thoroughly enjoyed our time there!!

DW always says I drive to fast:confused3 I found the back roads to be pretty quick ,never saw a cop and only once had heavy traffic and only for a short distance. If others are saying 2 hours go with that, Do agree that a day or two in Charleston is a must if you've never been there. Charleston Hotel is available with your DVC points, a little high but it's one the nicest hotels I've stayed at. We've been there a number of times and IMO Charleston is one of the few cities where you can feel safe walking around at night. WE also spent a day in Savanna when we went to HH lots to do there ended our day with a haunted tour:scared1: , I've done others and think Savanna's is pretty good. We bought the unlimited bus pass but if your in decent shape they have a walking tour mapped out, if you park by the waterfront you can spend a day walking everywhere.

In the summer I make the trip back and forth almost weekly, and agree with the 2 hour time frame. If you want directions LMK. There are one or two shortcuts you can take depending on the route. You'll hit a stretch of 2 lanes no matter which way you take but overall it's not a bad drive. :) You definitely want to watch out for the radar in Beaufort County however; honestly I believe that SC is balancing their budget on speeding tickets these days. :scared1:

If you take the backroads beware of 17. There is a long stretch where the speed limit is very low (I think it's 50 mph). Anyway it seems like you are really crawling. Turns out that area has had lots of serious accidents so they really put the limit down low and it's heavily enforced. I'm not so sure if you're just better off sticking to the interstates.
