We just returned yesterday from 6 wonderful days in a 2BR villa at Hilton Head, our first trip to the resort. The group consisted of DW and me, our DD and SiL, plus our two granddaughters. The older GD is 9, and the younger one turned 6 during the trip.

We drove from Wisconsin - 1045 miles each way - in a rented minivan. It was a pretty smooth trip, with one exception. It took us 2.5 hours to go 15 miles south of Chicago! This was on a Saturday morning, and there wasn't any construction or accidents that we could see, just stop and go traffic (mostly stop). It's an area where I294, I90, I88, I57 and a couple of other I's all come together, so maybe that's the problem. Ironically Illinois is also the only state that had tolls, so they make you pay for the privilege of having your day ruined. It was just as bad coming home on Sunday.

Anyway, the rest of the driving was fine. We had a portable DVD player with us to keep the girls placated. And of course, they are the best behaved kids ever, anyway. JMHO of course. :)

We stayed in 2712, a first floor villa in the building that sits beside the shuffleboard court. It was a terrific location, convenient to all of the activities and the pool, but not the least bit noisy. I think the 2nd floor might have been even better, but we would take 2712 again in a heartbeat.

The room was very spacious. In fact, it felt as big as an OKW 2BR, although I think it's technically a little smaller. We liked the feel of it, and all the little touches like the W.D. carved into the bench and the paw prints in the tile. The large balcony was great, too. For those that haven't stayed there before, the balcony has a full size picnic table plus two rocking chairs. And there's still plenty of room to move around.

Everything was shipshape in our room. The only problems that come to mind was that the dryer took forever to get the job done, and the one time that we folded out the couch we had problems getting it refolded. Maintenance showed up immediately after we called and fixed it. We had the same problem at WLV, so either we are clods, or DVC needs to get its couches from a better supplier.

The weather was in the high 80s and low 90s every day. It was very humid, and there was no wind to speak of. But no rain, and that's the thing that can really kill a HHI vacation. It's easy to keep cool on the beach, in the pool or on the water, so the weather was just fine with us. Also, almost no bugs.

The resort is really neat. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore, and plenty of activities to keep everyone busy. In fact, I think I'll post a second thread on activities as soon as I can get to it.

Glad you had a great trip! Everytime I read someone's trip report, it makes me wish I were going back sooner!

All these postive HH trip reports make me think i should try it again.
Thanks for the great report.

Oh, me too. We have to wait until next July. It's always a LONG wait.

Glad you had a great trip!!

Glad you all had such a nice time!

We liked HHI so much this past July that I just booked another 2 bedroom for March 2004. We loved the activities and yet there was a lot of peace and quite as well.

When is everyone going in March? We just booked March 14 for 5 nights (Sun - Thurs) for our school spring break. The last two years it was in April, and we went down to HH and had perfect weather. They switched the school schedule to a March break this year (back to April in 2005). Does anyone know how the weather is down there mid-March?
