Thinking about going to HHI for out 2005 vacation. We've done the Disney parks for the past few years - thinking about a somewhat relaxing time for 2005.

What would be a good time to go? Would like to go when it's not so hot - but yet warm enough for swimming.

Any suggestions?

Hi-
We decided to try HH last July after 5 visits to WDW. We have 3 kids then ages 13, 10 and 6 but we had been to WDW in March so they weren't "jonesing" for WDW. Hilton Head is wonderful. Lots of activities for kids and adults, plenty of places to eat, the resort itself is a true gem. CM's very pleasant, beach house and beach extremely nice. We went in July expecting ultra-hot temps, mugginess and bugs. We had temps in the mid to uppper 80's, a little short rainshower each afternoon around 4, and NO BUGS. We live in New York so our summers are hot, muggy and buggy. It was waaaayyy better than here (maybe because we were on vacation??? I don't know!! We really loved it. We are heading back down next month for Easter and I am told to expect nice weather, temps in the 70's and low 80's, cooler evenings, few bugs. I will definitely post to let you know how our weather was. Happy Planning!!

We're going for the first time in July. Can you recommend any restaurants? Thanks.

We will be arriving for the third year in a row a week from today! We have gone the past two April's and had gorgeous weather. This year the school break is mid-March, we are hoping for decent weather. The two restaurants we are really looking forward to going back to are Captain's Seafood (very casual, but very good seafood), and Just Pasta (great fresh pasta). The best meal we know will be our "A Private Affair" with Chef Gordon.

Thinking of HHI..I always think of it! We loved it so much after going 5 times with DVC points that we just had to add on there! There is so much to do or do nothing at all. Beach is gorgeous even to walk along on a cold December day. July is hot, humid and fun to be at the beach! We have spent 4 holiday seasons there, once in April and once in July. We are planning a return next Spring/Summer 2005. Have a great time.

Captain's Seafood, love it! Just ate there 1 1/2 weeks ago. Another place that's similar (another one with paper towels on every table!) and has been recommended is the Sea Shack on Pope Ave., near Hofsbrau (if you know where that is)

I would think that September would be a great month to visit HH. The ocean water will still be warm, and the weather less humid. We loved HH in April, but the ocean water was too cool for swimming. The pools were heated--although the one at the ocean was more comfortable than the one at the resort. we loved our dinner at Truffles (not within walking distance of the resort, but worth the drive).

We are still considering DVC ar SSR, and part of our decision involves how much we would use HH. We are a very active family, not much on laying around at the beach. When you say there are a lot of acitivies, can you give an example? Is there a pool slide? Thanks so much!

Not sure about September, I thought that was hurrican season :o

I've been at Xmas and the weather was in the 70s and in April when it was in the 80s.

Inb, there is a very good slide at the pool by the resort. Activities tend to be mostly based around wildlife. Dolphin watch, visiting the nature reserve, the kids activities do fish painting, crabbing. There are some great golf courses in the area, boating and fishing.

Non nature activities would be wine and cheese pairings, cooking courses from Chef Gordon, for the kids they do video nights and for the teens I think they took them bowling and a pizza.

You could probably call or fax the recreation department at HH and ask them to fax you a copy of the current activity list as a guide. Obviously many things are seasonal, but it woill give you a good idea of the sort of things they do.

We went to HH two years ago in mid-April. The weather was perfect! The ocean water felt warm to me. The kids were boogie boarding all day. There is lots to do for the active family. We rented bikes for the week and rode all over. We went water skiing one day (the kids favorite) . I don't know if the air/water temps were typical for this time of year but they were really perfect. The resort is not right on the beach - it is about a mile away to the Disney beach house. We don't like getting in and out of our car on vacation, so we rode our bikes to the beach house/beach everday. I'm not sure this would work out so well in mid-summer due to the heat and afternoon t-stoms. For us, I think Late spring is best at HH.
