I vaguely recall the HHI add-on points are no longer available through Disney ... Is that correct?

Does a purchase directly through Disney incur closing costs?

We were looking at a 50 pt add-on, but when considering the closing costs it doesn't seem like such a good value.

Thank you.

You can still get HHI points (or any other sold-out DVC resort) direct through Disney. HHI add-on points are $80/point direct, 25 point minimum.

Disney does now charge closing costs on all add-ons but it should only be a couple hundred on a 50 point add-on.

When did they start charging closing costs?

We just added on 50 points at HHI in January. At that time, there were no closing costs. I waited.....and waited.....and waited for a 50-pt contract with a Feb UY to come available, but gave up after 6 months. When I ran the numbers, it cost me about $700 more by going direct. It was worth it because I was able to bank the 2010 points (6 days before the end of the UY!) AND there were no MF's on the 2010 points because it was 2011 when we bought.

Sometimes, the extra cost involved with going direct is worth avoiding the hassle of waiting for the right contract to come along.

This has been my situation. I have added on twice at HHI, both times directly, just because I could never find exactly what I wanted through resale. I was planning on adding on a couple more times, but I'm NOT happy about having to pay closing costs! GRRRRR. :headache:
