*HHI Owners and Beach Lovers Group Thread*

Artist point was the first sit down “date” dinner dh and I had at wdw about maybe 20 years ago. It was delicious. We were very upset when they converted it to the character meal and have not gone there since!
Ah, yes-we had our 30th anniversary dinner there, complete with a special cake we'd ordered. I still remember how perfect the whole experience was. The manager greeted us and led us to our table, we were given an amuse bouche (which I'd heard of on cooking shows, but never had). Our 40th was at Jiko, and although we enjoyed it, we really miss Artist Point.

That’s a great photo! What a great memory. I wish I had a photo of us when we were there. We’ve never been to Jiko. We almost went one night a few years ago but we didn’t have reservations and the wait was long. We ended up having dinner in the bar there, Victoria Falls.

Does any member of this group have a somewhat recent copy of the DHIIR "Resort Dining Guide" and/or the "Resort Experience Guide" that they could post here?

Although I don't, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the "Resort Dining Guide" available for download on the internet.

No See Ums. We spent 4 nights two weeks ago at DVC Vero Beach. We had a very good time. Enjoyed the resort. A few of us did get bit by the No See Ums. It made us wonder if Hilton Head has an issues with No See Ums at the beach, by the pool or in general on the Island.

Those bugs eating me are one of the reasons I rarely go to Vero. I own a contract there and love the resort but I'm one of the unlucky people that they are attracted to. They are active over 70 degrees. Mostly they bothered me at the Campfire, on the balcony and while outside walking a trail. I get eaten up while other members of my family are untouched.

We experienced these at VB, but not at HHI.

At VB last week I got bitten quite a few times on the balcony and anywhere the air was still. My wife was not noticing and thought I was making it up. This was due to me having the painful bite but no reaction or swelling. However after we got home we notice she had 4 or 5 bites on her ankle and they are painful and itchy. She has had this issue for like a week. We are leaving for HHI next week and are hoping to avoid no see ums

While there are bugs at HHI, they're nothing like reports out of VB. I lived in HHI and worked at the resort for a couple of years, and no see'ums were never an issue for me. A few people complained about them, but not many. There are some mosquitoes; however, some good bug spray keeps them at bay. You usually don't have to worry about either at the pool or on the beach, just if you spend time in nature, say, walking a nature trail on Pinckney Island. If you sit on your balcony for a long time, mostly around dusk, then I'd also wear a little bug spray to be safe.

I sure wish I knew how you know this. Searching for cash prices at this resort is the most frustrating thing to me.
My advice is to look at one date on the cash side within 7 months. (preferably one available on the points side)
If a room is available, you can click to see the prices for all of 25 and 26.

Yay! Thirteen days at DHHIR over Thanksgiving booked! Took almost an hour this morning to finish, and lots of glitches, so I did what I saw recommended here and took screenshots of our reservations, including reservation #s. In case it doesn't work (didn't once before), we'll be the ones sleeping on the mattresses by Broad Creek. Come and say "Hi!"

Alright Islanders, I need your thoughts. I am a little torn. We just got back from 5 great days on the island. One afternoon in the lobby we witnessed a tense check-in. We were in the lobby for the 3PM cookies waiting for the tray to be restocked. It was busy and several parties were checking in. For 10-15 one party kept most of the staff preoccupied. They were INSISTING on a marsh view room and refused to have "resort view". They kept demanding to all cast members they would only accept marsh view. It escalated to all the main lobby staff and pretty much stopped all other activity (including cookie restocking). They refused to accept, "we are 100% booked", "we do not have separate reservation pools", "all marsh view are occupied", and "there is never a guarantee of march view, but we always try to accommodate requests" as an answer. Ultimately, in order to appease them, they were given a "resort" view for night one and the resort staff would relocate all of their goods to a new marsh view for the rest of their stay. While they likely kept this guest "happy", this means housekeeping does an extra full clean and staff relocates all their stuff. Ultimately, "we the members" are baring the cost of these accommodations. I have stayed with resort view when I have requested marsh and never thrown a fit. I kinda wish staff would have stood up to the unreasonable/unjustified DEMAND, not request, even it would have resulted in an unsatisfied guest.

Unfortunately, they (the resort) probably decided that it wasn't worth the bad-mouthing that would probably result from them standing up to the guest (although they should have).
It reminds me of the time part of our reservation was inexplicably cancelled by MS-in Florida! We had to move every day, 4 days in a row. At the end of our stay, the front desk gave us a big box of cookies for our trouble. Although I thanked them, I let them know that we knew "It wasn't YOUR fault-it happened in Orlando!" It's just another example that sometimes the CMs there really go the extra mile so that they don't get blamed. And no, we didn't get so much as a "We're sorry" from MS.

The only thing about this is that we book one night stays sometimes. There is an extent to which moving someone after a day is the same as someone having a one night reservation somewhere. And there is nothing wrong with that. If they want to waste their entire day moving have at it. Silly.

This is just wrong. A request is just a request. Sometimes you get what you want and sometimes you don't. I've never once complained. Though I'll admit we've had great luck at HHI, but that's probably because we tend to go at less popular times. Our success at the parks has been a mixed bag, but that's just how it goes. I feel for the poor CM's that have to deal with that type of entitlement.

I also noticed today at dhhir that the new tv format matches wdw.

Dhhir also no longer “rents” dvds anymore. Found that out last night.

Today was ms carols last day for retirement!
