*HHI Owners and Beach Lovers Group Thread*

From my Thanksgiving trip: I was out birdwatching and often go to the huge Live Oak that is on the roadway that goes around the resort. The tree has a little fence around it and often I've seen shore birds nesting in it at night, so I pointed up and took some random pictures. Later on I was surprised when looking at the pics to see that this little guy was looking down at me. If you can't see them, check middle left side of picture.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, I'm so excited today! I have to tell someone who'd understand-we just booked our 20th consecutive Thanksgiving for November 2025. We don't have enough HHI points to book as long as we want to stay (11-12 nights), but we at least got that week.

Oh no, I hope that isn't the same little guy that had to be removed from the resort a few years ago! There was a raccoon that hung out in the stairwells of Building 12 and terrorized the guests.

I wouldn't know. Usually animals that come into human areas are attracted by food, so who knows?

We're back home from a quick trip, but had a great time and perfect weather for the past two days at HHI!

The New Year's activities were a lot of fun and much improved from two years ago. Previously, they basically just had a ball drop at noon. This year, they had a DJ and games for 3 hours at the pool, as well as free sparkling juice for families and paid alcoholic drinks for adults poolside.

Did anyone see the higher up's at the pool party?? I wish I was able to see more name tags, but I was very intrigued as to why so many managers and office-dressed staff were hanging around. Was it an office party for them? Were they seeing if their investment into a bigger NYE paid off? Was there some other reason??

I'll post schedules and pictures when I get a chance to upload them...

We were there and enjoyed it.

I noticed that dhhir has a new general manager. She was there with a blue tag. Looks like almost all of these dhhir managers were there.

I heard that the general manager at HHI is now at OKW. So I'm hoping that the next time we're at OKW, we'll get some HHI-type service, starting with no early knock on the door on check out day:laughing:. Oh, well-at least I can hope!

Never any discounts at dhhir!
Unless you can score the dvc discount within 7 month window.

Does anybody know how many owners at dhhir in 2024?
I calculate about 1.3 million points at dhhir.
Disney has to own 4% per sc law.
(I found 5k owners as of 2022)

tell me about Thanksgiving at HHI? anything special or particularly popular? I'm assuming it would be chilly for the beach.

We've spent Thanksgiving at HHI resort for the last almost 20 consecutive years. There've been lots of changes over the years, and at this point, I'm pretty sure any "regular" things (touch football with teams turkey/gravy, Golden Turkey, Cast Members cooking turkey, etc.) have gone away. As far as it being too chilly for the beach, there's been very variable weather over the years. From highs in the 30s to highs in the 80s. Typically, hope for weather in the mid-60s. One nice thing is that none of the restaurants are super-crowded-we've never needed reservations, and only had to wait for our table maybe 6 times in 20 years. Just a caveat if you like thrift stores-with the holiday, all the thrift stores we tried to go to had special hours (shorter than usual) and one was closed all week.
If there's anything else you want to know about Thanksgiving there, feel free to ask.

The new GM for Dhhir is connie.
She has a blue tag and braces.
Is that the same Connie who was, in essence, the acting asst GM for the past several years?

What Simba's Mom said is good advice. You never know about the weather that time of year, but generally speaking, it'll be in the 60s to low 70s. The ocean is too chilly to swim, yes...though there are almost always some hardy souls who venture out into it. Swimming in the pools should be fine as long as the "feels like" temp is 50F or above. The resort will be full, but the actual HHI won't be as busy as, say, April through early September which is the prime season there. You should still be able to bike the many miles of trails on HHI which is a very popular way to see HHI and visit numerous areas. There are multiple nature hikes and centers to stroll around, and wildlife viewing should be good, though most reptiles have begun to harbor themselves for the season. As always, avail yourself of activities at the resort itself. Some activities require a small fee (mostly arts and crafts stuff); others are free such as the campfire (currently twice a week) and the yard games located throughout the resort: b-ball, putting green, giant checkers, bocce ball, horseshoes, and corn hole among others. Enjoy!
