How much of Hilton Head resort is handicapped friendly? While we own there we have yet to visit and we would like to take my parents on what could potentially be one of my dad last vacations. However my dad is in a wheelchair and has balance issues so he can't stand up without help.

Only the main building has elevators. All the other units have stairs with no ground floor unit. But I do remember wheel chair ramps in all the public buildings, like the store by the pool. It's a long walk from the main building to the pool area but it's paved or partly wooden Boardwalk. Getting a wheel chair onto the actual beach may be pretty difficult as the sand is really soft for awhile. I had a little difficulty pushing my bike with my 40lb kid in it through that soft sand. I didn't ride the beach shuttle bus at all so I'm not sure if it has a wheel chair lift but with today's laws, I'd be very surprised if it didn't.

I believe HHI has a limited number of beach wheel chairs with the ball shaped wheels. I know someone did a report of taking their family member than was in hospice care to HHI right after the resort reopened after the hurricane this year. And the CMs were wonderful and even supplied the beach wheelchair for the member's uncle. I wish I could find the report. It wasn't in trip reports.

make sure to request HA. the main bldg has elevators and the footprint is very compact, very easy to get around, plus small lobby area with a lounge/den, where he could hang out, as well. at the beach, you can park in the HC space at the beach house. there is a ramp (it might be on the beach side--just walk thru small garage to other side) up to the beach house. even if your Dad could not get onto the beach, the beach house is lovely and I have enjoyed many afternoons sitting by the quick service area under shade watching the beach to the front and the pool to the side.

HA rooms are more than a request - they are a booking category so OP would want to do that.

Last time we were there, I saw a woman scooting around with her ECV. She looked pretty happy whenever I saw her, so I'm thinking that the resort is handicapped friendly. I wish I'd talked to her and asked her more specifically.
