Can anyone give me information about the campfire activity at HHI?

Where exactly was it?
How long was it?
Did you like it?
Were there any characters?

Are there any characters at HHI?

I just booked a long weekend for the end of April and now I'm wondering if there will be anything to do.

Thanks,

Susan

The campfire was in an area near the store, etc. just beyond the pool - a nice little sandy area with benches for seating, etc. I seem to remember it lasting about a half hour, with a staff member leading the group in silly activities and sing-alongs. No Disney characters anywhere at Hilton Head, unless you count the topiary Bambi by the front entrance! The campfire ended with S'Mores and it was fun. My daughters are 11 and 16, and they will participate in things like this, but not more than once!!! The younger children seemed to enjoy it very much.

we were there in April for a long weekend two years ago. I was also worried about finding things to do, but had no problems. We enjoyed playing pool and ping-pong, and had no problem with getting a table for ping-pong (there was a wait for the pool table). DD was 10 and did a kids night out where they went to see a movie and ate pizza. She enjoyed swimming in the pools. They also offered t-shirt painting, birdhouse painting, and talkiing with Shadow (the golden retriever). We weren't able to rent bikes from the resort because they were sold out. When I get home, I'll see if I can find the activities list from out trip.

Ah the campfire. We were there for Thanksgiving in 2004 and our 14 year olds thought it to be corny until they were in the thick of it and they realized that they actually liked it! There are trivia qustions and people are broken into teams in song singing games. We noted that several of the people at the campfire were vetrans asking the CM to do an old favorite that they had heard at the campfire in the past.
The campfire ring is over between the pool and the marsh side og HH. Underneath the stairs going up to snackbar.

Seems like your questions of the campfire have been answered. As for the question is there enough to do? I think there is. We were there in Dec/Jan 02/03 and Oct. 03 and we thought there were plenty of activities on site to keep us busy and plenty to do in HH if you want to leave the resort. Also, it's a wonderful place to do nothing. Our kids (10,7, and 3) at the time really enjoyed our stays there and beg to go every fall break now!

Thanks for all the great info. So the location is between the pool and the marsh, near the store. This sounds stupid, but is the campfire at the resort or the beach house, which I understand is about 1 1/2 miles away.

The campfire is right at the main resort, next to the pool in the center of the resort.

Susan, I hope you will post back after your Hilton Head trip. I'm getting the feeling that you're not too excited about going there and I'm willing to bet that you'll be pleasantly surprised. :cheer2:

We made our first trip to HHI during Thanksgiving last year as well and had some concern that the campfire would but more for kids (the youngest of our group was 19) but we all had fun and still yell "Shark Attack" for no reason whatsoever! ;)

Suzie-
You will love love love HH even without Disney characters- It's totally Disney and totally wonderful. My kids (ages 15, 12 and 8) love going there AS MUCH as going to WDW!! And- we'll be down there from 4/28 - 5/3- see you at the pool!! :smooth:

The campfire was one of the greatest vacation experiences I have ever had!! The 2 young men in charge are the next top actors. The songs, the impersonations, the way they interacted with the kids....You name it, we loved it.

It started to rain half way through the festivities. They started impersonating Arnold Schwartzneger (Spelling) trying to force the rain to stop. Well...It didn't work. We all grabbed some things and took the Marshmallows and stuff to the community hall. At that time, we did cold smores.

I would not miss this.....I also recommend the backyard BBQ. It was a little costly, 125.00, for the 5 of us. However, it was all you can eat and they did some skits etc.

We love HH!!

You won't run out of things to do!

Try and join the family Pirate Treasure Hunt. We have done this as a family our last two visits and it's really fun!

Grace if you happen to read this--we were there the same time as you in 2003.
Our family's claim to fame was how bad we were at Goofy Goofy Bingo! I hope you make it back again! We'll be back this fall.

Edit: Nice list TW1!!

We did the Campfire last Wed night!!!

Our first time too and you can't help but love it. The marsh setting is gorgeous at sunset.

In addition to the jokes, sing-a-longs, etc our guides did a hilarious version of the Peter Pan story assigning groups of people parts (Pan, Captain Hook, Smee) but the best were the people standing on top of the deck above - they got to be the "annoying" seagulls, and boy did they relish their lines!!!

I've read many times on this board that first timers have doubts, if you will, but we never lacked for an activity and most of our beautiful sunny days we didn't rush off the beach for them.

Have a great time!
