Since there are quite a few of us planning to be at Hilton Head over Thanksgiving, Keenercam and I are putting together a DIS family meet! Unfortunately (except for the lucky family who has booked it!), Chef Gordon has "A Private Affair" already scheduled for that evening, so he won't be able to do a "Member Mix-Ear" -- so how about if we do our own?

Gordon has said it will be fine for us to use Surfmen's Station (the large meeting room with fireplace at the Beach House) -- as long as we behave ourselves and don't disturb the APA going on over at Signals. ;) (Seriously, he said the two locations are separated enough that he doesn't feel it will be a problem!) We were thinking maybe a "heavy" hors d'oeuvres/dessert party. We could start around 6 pm, which would give those with younger children a chane to attend, and go till "whenever".

We will have all the "disposables" -- plates, napkins, etc., as well as coffee. We ask that everyone bring an hors d'oeuvre (doesn't have to be fancy) and a dessert to pass. You will also need to bring your own beverages. (Yes, adult beverages will be permitted!)

Please respond to this thread with how many in your family/group will attend, and with what you plan to bring, so that we can hopefully have a good variety.

Hope everyone is able to make it!! :wave2:

We are a party of seven, four adults and three fourteen year olds.I am not sure what plans the kids have as they checked off a couple of things on the activitiy sheet.
Of course wherever we go we bring wine!Have you ever done thid before? As far as an hors' doeuver possibly chicken wings? I am trying to figure out what my cooking facilities will entail as we move from a one bedroom to a studio for the rest of our trip unless our waitlisted rooms open up.

 :jumping1: :drinking1

Dear organizing committee!

Thanks for taking the lead on this. Cailyn, my parents and I are thrilled to join you. We'll come prepared with some goodies!

I can't wait to go home:-)

OMG, OMG, can I come too???? We're not actually staying on-site, since we already have a place at HH that we'll be at over Thanksgiving. However, I can call y'all in free gate passes to Sea Pines if anyone want to visit the lighthouse that week. I think my dh wants to check out who these people are that I spend ALL my time with these days!:D We're a family of 5, me, dh, dd-15, ds-10, ds-4.

Keeping my fingers crossed....

Hi, everyone! SOOOOO excited about all the positive responses. This was soo much fun when we did it last year!

Dottie-- be sure to put me down for spinach balls and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. There will be 6 of us -- Howard, me, Jenn (16) and Andy (11) and my MIL and FIL. Hopefully, the schedule won't conflict with kids' night out or any of the teen activities. I know Jenn and Andy are looking forward to seeing everyone, too!

Dis-happy -- we'd LOVE to have you and yours!

I'm so excited! This will be my first DIS meet! Woohoo!!!!!

I know I'll be there and I'll see if I can get DH to come along. My teen son (17) and younger brother (13) will probably want to attend as well unless the teen night out is Wednesday night. I don't know about my sis and b-i-l or my younger teen sis (13) since they will only have their villa through Tuesday night. I've invited them to spend Wednesday night with us so if they are still at HH they may come along too.

I don't know right now what I will bring. Possibly some type of chicken dish and at least one dessert type dish (they will definitely be low carb) so I can be sure DH and I will have something on plan to eat.

I am looking forward to meeting you all.

I'm not sure if we'll be able to make it as all the rest of the family will be arriving Weds evening and I would hate to not be in the room when they get there (they're always a bit hesitant when going new places). I'll know their schedule better when it gets closer to time.

Wow! What a great response already! Now these three weeks till HH are really going to drag by....

If Wednesday is a teen night, my son (16) will probably not be at the meet, but definitely DH, DD (19) and I wll be in any case!!

ZerasPride, tell DH to give it a try. My DH was kind of skeptical of these things, too, but he gave it a try and we have since met many fellow DVC-ers who have become friends, whether we're at our home-away-from-home or not!!

Dis-happy, of course you can join us. Just show your DVC member card at the door. :p And we just may take you up on the Sea Pines admission, LOL!!

When we did this a couple of years ago, we had a great time, I'm sure that this year will be no different.

Just BEING at HH will be wonderful -- this makes it even better. We'll have to make plans for a DIS team for the Turkey Bowl the next day!!! ;)

We'll be there! Me, Dh and the kiddos - 8 & 10.

I'm thinking I'll bring some kind of cookies/brownies and a veggie tray with dip.

Looking forward to it! Thanks Dottie and Cam for your planning!

Thanks to SweetP for the heads up! And thank you to Dotti and Cam for getting it all together. Pat and Cara will be there, but if that is a kids night out, I know Cara will want to sign up for it. I am still considering what to bring. Dessert part is easy, as is a bottle of wine, but since I'm a studio gal, I will have to get creative with the appetizer. Did anyone mention a cheese and cracker tray? (Not all that creative but easier to do in a studio!)

Also, as in the past, if Cara is not at kids night out, I'm sure she'll want to spend her time in the gameroom till they close it down, so I guess I should also pack a roll of quarters!

Looking forward to seeing you all there. Let me know if I can help in any other way. We will be there from Sunday the 21st on till Saturday after TG.
And, Dotti - the turkey bowl - do girls play? or is just the guys?

Anyone who wants to can play -- at least that's how it's been in the past.

Last year there were two or three games going on at once. There were even some little kids involved -- although a couple of them may not have the best memories of it because they got mowed down a couple of times.

I usually sit on the side, along with a beverage, and cheer them on! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Glad you and Cara will be there Pat!!

Does the staff help organize teams if you're just an individual or a couple who wants to play? Are there different games for kids than adults? Men and women?

Same here, Dotti. It will be nice to see you and Joe and family again. I am going to get to the Turkey Bowl this year! Of course I will be on the sidelines as well.

The teams usually just kind of divide up so there's approximately the same number of people on each one. They also try to evenly divide up the younger kids, so that no one has too much of an advantage.

One time (can't remember if it was for Thanksgiving or for New Years Day...) they did do separate games for the kids and older folks, but usually the kids and adults have been mixed. Men and women play together, although I have to admit that not too many women are brave enough. It's supposed to be just for fun, but of course, there are a few (like my DS!) who take it very seriously. ;)

There are usually more guests who want to play than can play at any one time. There has to be at least one CM per game, and each player on the "field" has to have flags to wear, since it's flag football. So, lots of times, there is rotation, or people who play for a while then watch the rest.

In any case, the Turkey Bowl has become part of our Thanksgiving tradition at HH -- we plan our dinner around the game, LOL. (The game is usually at low tide, when the beach is the widest)

Really looking forward to this---thanks for letting us join you! Since I am doing my best not to cook this trip (have a pre-made Thanksgiving dinner ordered from a local restaurant), and since we are driving into town that day, I thought I'd bring some spicy chicken wings from Publix. Mmmmmm. Plus, the low-carbers will be happy. And then something with chocolate for dessert, just not exactly sure what. But chocolate is my middle name.

If you want a Sea Pines gate pass, just pm me with your first and last name, and the dates you will be there and I can call it in.

We'd love to attend the dis meet !Does anyone wear the lime green ribbon? We did last year on the Magic cruise and spotted each other before the official Dis meet on deck 10. It was fun because if someone couldn't attend the meet we were still able to meet each other. There will definitely be four of us- my parents and my DH. The kids will probably just pop in for a minute . DD(13) wil probably be going to teen night . DS(16) and DS(19) will just be glad to visit with each other as the older one will be arriving Wed.from college in St. Augustine.

Hey Wendy, glad you are going to be there. Your board name caught my eye a while ago--- I think we belong to the same sorority. Where did you go to college?

Feel free to wear your ribbon! Personally, we have never done them at HH before, since the resort is so small... And when we get to Surfman's Station on Wednesday, I'm sure we'll be the only people at the beach house, except for those doing A Private Affair...

I guess after we met initially, we just kind of recognized each other before... ??
