HH Seafood Dining

There is a wide variety.

We enjoy Scott's Fishmarket (across the bridge from the resort - within walking distance), Redfish (about a 10 minute drive also with a 10% DVC discount) and the Old Oyster Factory (can be seen from the resort across the marsh- a 20 minute drive) and Charlie's (about a 5 minute drive from the resort).

There are many others within a short drive - you might even ask for suggestions from the resort staff.

We have enjoyed all of those I mentioned, but there are many others also nice. (Alexander's- on the way to the Beach House, KingFisher's - next to Scott's), Ocean Grille (across from the resort), CQ's (at HarborTown in Sea Pines), Old Fort Pub (inside Hilton Head Plantation), Hudson's ( a 15 miunte drive).

Enjoy! :)

We have enjoyed Hudson's in past trips. Very good seafood. Pick up a restuarant guide at the front desk or at many locations on the island. It's packed with menus and also a very helpful map.

Room 2412. Someone in the past few weeks had one heck of the seafood meal in there because that is what the room smelled like last week.

It is a perfect location so you deal with the smell and take the view.

We love the Sea Shack. It is a little place with small tables inside and picnic benches outside. All the locals eat there. Very casual but incredibly yummy. We also always go to Red Fish and Old Oyster Factory. Stripes is our favorite restaurant on the island, but is not strictly seafood. Everyone's tastes are different, but we have really not liked the Kingfisher for anything but Happy Hour Oysters and Crab Legs.

Although we haven't gotten to Old Fort Pub yet, Chef Gordon recommended it. I think that's an excellent recommendation. We've eaten at, and enjoyed, Salty Dog, Hudson's, and Cafe Europa for seafood, all for lunch. What's kept us from Old Fort Pub is that we're used to having our big meal at lunch time, and Old Fort Pub is only open for dinner.

Cafe Eurpoa closed recently, but, they are suppose to reopen under a new name. Ask at the desk.

You could always come over to Savannah. I recommend the River House and the Salt-Water Grill.

We just returned from Hilton Head. Hudson's and the Crazy Crab are both delicious. Along with great seafood, they both have great melt-in-your-mouth hushpuppies. The Old Oyster Factory is good, too. We tried the Sea Shack since people had recommended it on this board. I was very disappointed. I had crab cakes. They were the worst I had ever had.

Hudson's on the Docks!! I've tried Scott's twice and was disappointed both times. It was okay food, and sitting outside with live music is nice - but I did not think it was not anywhere close to "great" fresh seafood. Crazy Crab was much better - but they do use MSG - an ingredient I am deathly allergic to - in their fried fish :sad2: Still, it's got a wonderful atmosphere (the one in Harbourtown is next to a lighthouse). DH said the fried fish was very tasty and my steamed shrimp was yummy.

But - Hudson's on the Docks was FABULOUS seafood. I'm a Florida native, so I love, love, love good, fresh, local seafood. Hudson's had delicious oysters and crab cakes - and DH got the blackened catch of the day and it was delicious.

We went to Alexander's last night. (In Palmetto Dunes on the way to the beach house) While we all enjoyed our dinners, my crab cakes were some of the best I've ever had! (And I do love my crab cakes!!) I only ate one last night and had the other for lunch today.

We have never been disappointed with any of the entrees we've had there!

Oyster Factory is sooo good as well. You can see the red roof right from the marsh balcony it is off to the far right.. the scallops are HUGE and melt in your mouth. They also have entertainment that my twins love and could participate in as well so the wait goes by quickly.. enjoy!:cutie:

OK, my dear starbox... deathly allergic to... MSG? You know I like you and your likes the same. Seriously starbox... "DEATHLY" allergic to MSG?

It is simply a simple compound of salt... Hope I'm not pissing you off.... but MSG is really just sodium... slightly adjusted.

Okay... because it is you... I believe you... I guess because I have taken it in forever... I just don't know what you experience.... Still, I believe you...

Please don't tell me next that you hate to eat at a buffet....

Sorry.... just picked that tid-bit up from MrsNick... just had to get it in...

Love you and your family always, Rob

Edit: be nice.... this old man just spent 4 hours playing volleyball and my knees are really hurting.

We really liked Crazy Crab and we went to the one in Harbour Town. it worked out great....we put our name in about 8pm and let the kids watch Greg Russell. Our name was called when the show was just about done....They had lots of nice seafood options and were willing to make substitutions based on preferences (ie. skip the oysters...add another crab cake). The hushpuppies were great!

Okay, so, technically I am not "allergic" - I am what they call "reactive". It's not a food ingedient sensitivity, but a reaction to a chemical compound.

Here's where it gets weirder. I don't react with the typical symptom profile of a person that is reactive to monosodium glutamate. If I am exposed to even a small bit of MSG, I violently react (as in, I won't make it to the car)like a person that is highly reactive to good old table salt.

Ready to be freaked out? Here's the warning from the US Government's chemical fact sheet for..... table salt.
http://cameochemicals.noaa.gov/chemical/21014

"Health Hazard
SYMPTOMS: Ingestion of this compound may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscular twitching, inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, dehydration and congestion (dehydration and congestion can occur in most internal organs, particularly the meninges and brain). Death may occur from respiratory failure secondary to an acute encephalopathy."

Why does MSG cause me to be acutely reactive to sodium? The best answer I have heard is that the processing of MSG allows the sodium to cross the blood brain barrier and regular table salt does not. But - who knows :confused3.

It's much easier to just say "allergic to MSG" when I explain it.
