HH restaurant suggestions on a BUDGET?

Scenario: Family of 5, with 3 of us being under the age of 8 (translates to SMALL portions) and one of us being on a diet (unfortunately, that would be me ). I was trying to plan on cooking all dinners and breakfasts, but then I realized that I was supposed to be out exploring all HH has to offer and enjoying myself! This is our first HH adventure and I have been reading a lot on Tommy Towery's website.
I have read that HH Diner might be an option and then there is Cracker Barrel and the Salty Dog for inexpensive meal options... Anyplace else that might be a hit with the kids without breaking the bank? I wouldn't want to be inside cooking while everyone else is out having fun!

There are many reasonable choices. Dunes and Gussiepie's Pizza come to mind. The Bamboo is pretty reasonable and Wild Wings is cheap. A lot of places have early birds and you can find many discounts, free salads and the like. There is also a 2 for 1 card or book for HH though I've never gotten it.

Give us an idea how much you would like to spend. "Budget" doesn't mean cheap, it just means planned.

Hilton Head has a lot of places that have "early bird" specials. You can get some good appetizers at Tony Romas before 6pm that you can make a meal out of. Aunt Chilada's has 2 for $1.00 tacos on certain nights of the week. There's a heavy snack buffet at the Holiday Inn one night for $3.00 a person. Check out the resturant book when you check in. Somewhere in it is the early bird special menus. One thing to consider - many of the early bird menus are only available in the bar area and not the main resturant.

There's also McDonalds, Wendy's, etc.

Both the Hofbrauhaus and the Big Bamboo Cafe have early-bird specials. Usually it's about $10-12 for an adult and includes 2 or 3 courses and a beverage.

If your kids do not eat a lot then have them share meals at the nicer places. My kids are very adventurous eaters but do not eat a lot so they often share a kids meal, even at 10 & 7.

Giuseppe's is a great place for pizza, but also serves other Italian dishes. We enjoyed this a lot -- best pizza we've had in a long time. There's also a deli not too far from the resort (but you would have to drive), but I can't remember the name... just a small shop in a strip mall but wonderful food... on the right as you head toward Harbour Town

The mexican across from the resorts is not bad. You can do ala cart for the kids if they don't eat much. Plus you can fill up on the free chips and salsa before a big meal. Fajitas are around $10-12 and is pleanty for two. Plus eating outside by the boats is nice. At Tony Romas, we share platters. Old Oyster Factor has a great and huge vegtable platter for 9.95

If you fancy just a burger, fries and a malt then Freddie Fudruckers does a pretty decent priced meal and I think it was pretty popular with kids. There was a really nice small, family Italian ( but the name escapes me) which is in a small shopping plaza a couple of miles from the resort. Turn right on the main main road as you exit Shelter Cove heading towards Harbour Town. There is a golf discount store one or two shops away from the restaurant.

I would agree with the Mexican at Shelter Cove being pretty good value ( and large portions)

And, there is always Piggly Wiggly and your stove decoration...

We actually wound up eating in our room for breakfast and dinner and ate at the resort or Beach House for lunch.

We like the Captain's Diner. It's a right turn out of Shelter Cove and immediately after the Hilton Head Diner, on your right. Very laid back, family friendly atmosphere with some outdoor tables where the kids can stretch their legs a bit. The food is good, and a great value for the price. My personal favorite is the oyster roll, but they have excellent fish specials for dinner, and choices of fried seafood also.

It's called Captain's Seafood. It is very reasonable and has a special lunch menu. We go at least three or four times a year. They also have carryouts and a seafood market. Specials on different nights.

Last year I went to DelVecchio's and had a great meal. It's in a strip mall, small pizza parlor look to it. I had crab cakes that were just wonderful. The other meals I saw go by looked good too. I even got a DVC discount.
